ABOUT THE ROLE
Tennis Wales is the Governing Body of tennis and padel in Wales. Our vision is tennis opened up across Wales. We aim to transform Welsh communities through tennis and padel. We launched our strategy from 2020 – 2024, and in collaboration with the LTA, Sport Wales, and was extended further until December 2026. We are currently working towards a revised version for 2027 and beyond.

Tennis Wales is looking to recruit a dynamic, passionate and professional representative from North Wales (who must be a member of a registered place to play within the region) to join the Tennis Wales Board as a Director. As well as being a Director of Tennis Wales Ltd, the applicant will also liaise with or can opt to join the North Wales Tennis Committee, with a focus on delivering our strategy.

This is a non-salaried position. Travel and other reasonable out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed for attendance at official meetings and events on behalf of Tennis Wales. The Tennis Wales Board meets five times a year across Wales. The term of office is for three years initially with a maximum of two, three-year terms.

MAIN PURPOSE
The successful applicant will take an active role in the policymaking & strategic development for Tennis Wales at Board level, taking an impartial view and providing oversight and challenge. They will provide specialist advice & support using their professional skills to benefit the organisation. Playing an active role on the Board, they will work with other Board members and the CEO to manage Tennis Wales with excellence and deliver our strategy.

As a member of the Tennis Wales Board, they will adopt our organisational values: Fair Play, Embrace Wales, Progress Together and Grow through tennis, whilst liaising with the North Wales Committee, the Tennis Wales team and community to ensure our vision for tennis opened up across Wales.

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To use their experience as an active member of the tennis or padel community in North Wales to offer the Board a valuable perspective along with guidance on matters of concern.
2. To make an informed contribution to the strategy and objectives of Tennis Wales, offering a view to the organisation in an objective & constructive manner, whilst exercising independent judgement.
3. To take shared responsibility for the performance of the organisation, monitoring performance to ensure Tennis Wales achieves its objectives and aims, operating as a high performing organisation.
4. To represent Tennis Wales externally with excellence, promoting the work of the organisation, our values, creating links & introductions to new partners that deliver our strategy.
5. To provide advice in relation to the finance & risk management of Tennis Wales, offering information, best practise examples in an impartial way for the Board.
6. To guide and support the Chief Executive and the executive as requested on strategic projects related to Tennis Wales, using their knowledge of tennis or padel.
7. To provide insight, ideas and specialist advice to Tennis Wales that benefits the organisation and delivers our strategy.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE ESSENTIAL
Experience working at a senior level within an organisation, working at Board level or similar to make strategic decisions.

Professional qualifications or experience that will benefit the Board, including knowledge of tennis or padel. Some desirable areas include: Human Resources, Employment Law, Sport Management or PR/Marketing.

Excellent communication skills, working with other Board members, stakeholder, funding partners and colleagues in the organisation.

An understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of being a company director.

Member of a registered place to play in North Wales

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE DESIRABLE
Fluent in the Welsh language.
