Job Description
About The Role

We are deeply passionate about the grassroots game across Staffordshire. We are committed to making it accessible to everyone who wants to be involved, whether as a player, coach, volunteer and everyone who works with us and for us. Our mission is to support Staffordshire Football in creating safe, inclusive environments where individuals can pursue and achieve their football aspirations.

This new role is vital in developing and supporting the development of our football workforce, particularly the 3,800 coaches working across our 2,600 teams as well as providing a wider range of support to club and league volunteers to enhance our offer, ensuring a wider range of personal development opportunities are available across each season.

As grassroots football continues to develop, exciting changes are on the horizon including the introduction of 3v3 formats and updates to youth pathways for the 2026/27 season. These changes bring fresh opportunities, but also a responsibility to support the people who make the game happen.

We’re committed to helping parents, coaches, and volunteers build their knowledge, foster positive behaviours, and feel confident in their roles. By doing so, we’ll ensure that new participants not only feel welcome but are inspired to stay involved for the long term.

It’s a challenge we’re ready for, and one we’re determined to succeed in.

Key Objectives

As our Coaching & Workforce Officer, your work will directly support our vision to Support, Develop, Unite and Protect grassroots football across Staffordshire.

Workforce Growth & Support
Understand and support volunteer workforce needs within clubs. Support delivery of programmes for volunteer retention, match official development, and behavioural management. Promote diversity, inclusion, and equality across the coaching and volunteer workforce.

Accreditation & Incentives
Assist clubs with their annual England Football Accreditation renewal. Support clubs in writing and implementing development plans. Develop and implement localised incentives and rewards for Accredited Clubs.

Stakeholder Engagement
Build relationships with volunteer and paid staff, the casual workforce, and strategic partners. Collaborate with internal Staffordshire FA colleagues to deliver shared objectives.

Technology & Systems Support
Promote and support the adoption of FA technology systems (e.g., Club Portal, Whole Game System). Provide excellent customer service to volunteers using these systems.

Monitoring & Evaluation
Use data to monitor and evaluate coaching and workforce programmes. Ensure continuous improvement through strategic planning and feedback.

What will you receive from us?

• Professional ongoing support from colleagues and senior staff collectively and one to one personal development advice
• Designated time to attend Training on a regular basis
• Gaining and developing experience of working in Grassroots football
• Gaining knowledge of sport at a grassroots level with an oversight of other sectors
• Enhancement of personal and professional skills
• Networking with partners and gaining project support.

What will you need?

This role is about developing people and strengthening grassroots football across Staffordshire. It’s for someone who understands what coaching represents: growth, opportunity, and the future of grassroots football. We’re looking for someone who sees beyond the session plan. Someone who understands the impact a great coach can have on a player, a team, and a community. You’ll combine technical expertise with emotional intelligence, valuing both the quality of the coaching and the people who give up their time to make it happen.

You’ll work closely with England Football Accredited Clubs, helping them align with national frameworks and deliver high-quality experiences for players. You’ll lead coach development initiatives, mentor individuals, and manage a team of Coach Developers to ensure every club has access to the support they need.

At its core, this role is about connection, leadership, and impact. You’ll collaborate with stakeholders, champion safeguarding and inclusion, and use technology to make football more accessible and efficient.

You’ll be the person who listens, supports, and inspires. Who knows that behind every fixture are volunteers, parents, and players relying on someone to make it all work. You’ll help clubs build sustainable coaching structures, mentor individuals, and create environments where everyone can thrive.

This role is about leadership, empathy, and purpose. It’s about making football better, building sustainable environments where coaches, volunteers, and clubs can thrive. You’ll be the driving force behind programmes that improve coaching standards, support club development, and grow a diverse, skilled volunteer workforce.

Here’s what you will need to bring:

Passion for grassroots football
You believe in the power of football to change lives and communities. You’re driven to make the game accessible, inclusive, and safe for everyone.

Leadership
You’ll guide coaches, volunteers, and clubs with empathy and expertise, empowering others to grow, learn, and succeed.

A Strategic mindset
You understand how local actions connect to national goals. You’ll plan and deliver programmes that align with wider football strategies and make a lasting impact.

Coaching credibility
As a UEFA B coach (minimum), you’ve undertaken your journey whether through coaching, mentoring or developing others. You bring real-world experience and a commitment to high standards.

Flexibility
This role will engage directly with volunteers across the grassroots game. Regular evening work will be required along with weekends as needed to meet the requirements of our football workforce.

Relationship builder
You’ll work with a wide range of stakeholders, coaches, volunteers, officials and parents. You know how to listen, empathise, collaborate, and build trust.

Organisation and proactiveness
You’ll manage multiple programmes, deadlines, and relationships. You’re someone who gets things done.

Inclusivity and respectful
You value diversity and understand the importance of creating welcoming environments. You’ll champion equality and inclusion in everything you do.

Digitally confident
You’re comfortable using systems like the Club Portal and other FA tech tools. You’ll help others navigate them too, with patience and clarity.

Resilient and adaptable
Grassroots football is dynamic and sometimes unpredictable. You’ll stay focused, flexible, and positive no matter the challenge.

Full, clean driving licence
You’ll be out and about across Staffordshire, supporting clubs and communities therefore a full driving licence and access to a car is essential.

What will you be doing?

The Staffordshire football workforce is the heartbeat of the game, and your job is to help it thrive.

You’ll work closely with clubs to develop coaches at every level, from new volunteers and parents to experienced UEFA C and UEFA B coaches. You’ll provide high-quality, practical support that helps coaches feel confident, capable, and valued.

You’ll also support wider club and volunteer development, helping teams manage behaviour, build inclusive environments, and grow their off-field workforce. These are the people who give up their evenings and weekends to keep football running and you’ll be there to support them.

You’ll play a key role in ensuring our England Football Accredited clubs have access to the tools, guidance, and support they need to deliver safe, positive football experiences across Staffordshire along with supporting our wider off field services. You will work alongside our staff to deliver training, workshops and events to enhance our overall service across the game.
