Job Description
Are you a detail-driven payroll professional with a passion for precision and compliance? Milton Keynes Dons is seeking a confident and experienced Payroll Specialist to manage our multi-entity payroll operations with accuracy and care.

Our Finance team plays a crucial role in maintaining the operational rhythm of our business, and payroll is at the heart of that mission.

About the Role

As Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll across multiple business entities, ensuring full compliance with UK payroll legislation. From PAYE to pension contributions and statutory payments, you’ll manage end-to-end payroll with precision, professionalism, and discretion.

You’ll act as a trusted point of contact for payroll queries, provide key support for financial reporting and audits, and drive continuous improvements in payroll efficiency and accuracy.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a methodical, solutions-oriented payroll professional who understands the importance of confidentiality, compliance, and clarity. You’ll need a strong eye for detail, a collaborative approach, and the confidence to work independently on critical financial processes.

Essential:

Minimum 2 years’ experience in UK payroll
Strong knowledge of PAYE, NIC, pensions, and statutory requirements
Experience using payroll software (e.g., Sage, Xero, IRIS, ADP)
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and data handling
Excellent written and verbal communication
CIPP qualified or working towards
Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion

Desirable:

Experience managing payroll for multiple entities or sites
Familiarity with payroll reconciliation and finance integration

Key Responsibilities

Process monthly payroll for multiple business units, ensuring accuracy and compliance
Manage payroll inputs, including new starters, leavers, and variable pay data
Ensure all statutory submissions (HMRC, pensions, etc.) are submitted on time
Respond to payroll queries and explain deductions or entitlements clearly
Assist Finance with payroll reporting, audits, and budget planning
Keep payroll records up to date and compliant with GDPR standards
Monitor changes to payroll legislation and apply necessary updates
