Job Description

DUTIES:
· To provide medical support services for the duration of the School Games National Finals, responsible as an individual practitioner as well as a member of the multi-disciplinary team. This includes the prevention and treatment of illness and injury, and the maintenance of optimal health and well-being for the athletes, team members and support staff of the School Games.
· To attend briefings, and complete roles and responsibilities of a medical team officer as would be expected in a multi-sport accredited Games. This will include set up of medical areas, active provision of medical care at venues and HQ, adequate and full communication between the medical team, and facilitating stand down at the end of the Games.
· To adhere to the highest standards of professional practice and abide to the Schools Games code of conduct.
· To keep appropriate and contemporaneous medical records.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

1) Professional Experience & Qualifications
• Current full registration with the GMC HCPC or NMC
• Doctors: Must have qualified by August 2021 (i.e. be in at least their 4th year of working)
• Doctors: To hold a current Level 2 OR 3 pre-hospital emergency care qualification (PHICIS, SCRUMCAPS, RFL, Jockey Club or equivalent)
• Physios to hold a current Level 2 OR 3 pre-hospital emergency care qualification (PHICIS, SCRUMCAPS, RFL, Jockey Club or equivalent)
• Professional indemnity either through their professional body or from an insurance provider.

2) Sport Experience

 To be able to demonstrate a regular clinical commitment to sports medicine. This work must include ‘pitch-side’ competition, training, post-competition phases etc.
 Working knowledge and experience of the World Anti-Doping Agency Code and workings of UKAD.

3) Must be available from Thursday 3rd September to Sunday 6th September inclusive***

*** there will be the opportunity for a small number of people to leave 1 day early

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:
• Completed or working towards a postgraduate qualification (Diploma or Masters degree) in Sport and Exercise Medicine.
• Nurses: To hold a current Level 2 OR 3 pre-hospital emergency care qualification (PHICIS, SCRUMCAPS, RFL, Jockey Club or equivalent)
• 3 years experience of working within sport.
• Experience across a diverse range of sports including working with youth athletes.
• Experience of having worked at a multi-sport Games/holding camps with either an NGB or in an HQ medical team role.

GENERAL:
Appropriate, relevant, and competent clinical techniques and clinical reasoning skills that consider both injury management and performance enhancement in age specific athletes.
A team player with experience of effective working within a multi-disciplinary environment.
Professional, flexible, and conscientious approach to work with good communication skills and an ability to perform under pressure.
