Job Description
Reporting To: First Team Manager and Head of Medical

Role Purpose:

Southend United Football Club is seeking a dedicated Physical Performance Coach to work with our First Team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing physical training programmes to enhance player performance and prevent injuries, working closely with the coaching staff and medical department.

Ensuring players are in peak physical condition, monitoring player workload, and provide input on training as well as match day performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work alongside the Head of Medical to ensure consistency and alignment in the delivery of the first team physical performance programme
• Set up and deliver pre-season field and gym-based testing
• Plan and help with the delivery of the pre-season programme alongside the medical and coaching staff
• Set up and deliver daily morning gym-based prehab sessions which fall in line with field-based training sessions to prepare players
• Plan and deliver pitch sessions to prepare players for training and further develop their speed and agility
• Monitor the first-team players physical loads through GPS systems and provide feedback to the coaching staff daily, playing a key role in planning future sessions
• Provide and deliver weekly gym- based individual programmes for all players to meet their needs, supporting their performance on the pitch and reducing the risk of injury
• Implement recovery strategies on a weekly basis for post-training and match days
• Monitor players anthropometrics monthly, ensuring measurements are within a required range
• Support the players daily nutrition plan, around training and match days
• Engage with the Head of Medical, to help support the delivery of late-stage, pitch-based rehabilitation for injured players
• Support the Head of Medical with injured players gym-based strength and conditioning programmes alongside their rehab when required
• Attend daily meetings with the first team staff to support the planning of training sessions around player workloads
• Attend all Southend United matches throughout the season playing a key role in their preparation
• Be responsible for match day requirements and supplements for all players
• Work with administration staff to plan away game travel, ensuring facilities, food options etc are appropriate, to support nutritional requirements

Essentials:

• Undergraduate degree in Sports Science/Strength and Conditioning or related fields
• UKSCA Accreditation or clear demonstration of working towards this and obtain within 6-12 months
• Minimum of two years’ experience working within an elite sporting environment
• Passion for coaching and improving athletes to reach their full potential
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with players and staff
• Eligible to work in the UK with a full UK Driving Licence

Desirables

• Post Graduate qualification in Sports Science / Strength and Conditioning or related fields

• Enhanced DBS Check
• First Aid Qualification
