Job Description
Scottish Swimming is looking for a dynamic and committed individual to join its Board of Directors and help shape the future of aquatic sport in Scotland.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of Scottish Swimming. As a Board Director, you will bring your experience, knowledge and perspective to the Board, helping to shape strategic decisions and providing constructive challenge and support.

We are looking for people with a passion for sport who can bring fresh thinking and relevant experience. We particularly welcome applications from current and former athletes whose lived experience can help ensure the athlete voice is reflected in the future direction of Scottish Swimming.

You do not need previous Board experience to apply. What matters is the experience, insight and perspective you can bring, together with a willingness to learn and contribute at Board level.

The role requires attendance at approximately six Board meetings per year (typically in Stirling), the AGM in September, and occasional additional meetings or events.

If you are motivated to make a positive impact and help shape the future of Scottish Swimming, we would love to hear from you.

Following a review of the skills and experience of our current Board, Scottish Swimming is looking for someone who can bring a strong athlete perspective and help ensure the experiences and voices of athletes inform our future direction.

We are particularly interested in hearing from current or former athletes who can bring first-hand insight into the athlete experience and help shape a positive future for athletes in Scotland. Your lived experience can provide a valuable perspective on what works well, where there are opportunities to improve, and how Scottish Swimming can continue to support athletes at different stages of their journey.

Key areas of experience include:

- Lived experience as an athlete, with an understanding of athlete development and the factors that contribute to a positive athlete experience.
- Insight into coaching and performance environments, including experience of quality coaching, performance centres and the importance of clean sport and athlete welfare.
- An understanding of the athlete journey, with experience of one or more stages of the pathway from participation and development through to performance and/or elite sport.
- The confidence to represent and champion the athlete voice, ensuring that athlete perspectives and experiences are considered in strategic decision-making.
- A willingness to learn and contribute at Board level. Previous Board experience is not essential; we value the perspective, knowledge and lived experience that you can bring.
