Job Description
BACKGROUND
Rangers Football Club, formed in 1872, is one of the world’s longest established and most successful clubs, having won 55 League titles, 34 Scottish Cups, 28 League Cups and the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1972.

Few clubs can match Rangers for history, heritage, and tradition, and it resides in the top 10 strongest football brands according to the YouGov UK Brand Index.

Playing at the iconic 51,700 seat Ibrox Stadium and benefitting from a world-class 37-acre training facility, the club has been a leading light in Scottish, British and European football for decades.

The club benefits from a famously loyal support and the high volume of season ticket uptake means the club features in the top 19 average attendances in Europe. It is estimated that Rangers has a global fanbase of 4m, half of which are based in the UK.

JOB TITLE: Academy Physiotherapist
REPORTING LINE: PDP Medical Staff
DEPARTMENT: Academy Medical
LOCATIONS: Rangers Training Centre

THE ROLE
We are looking for Academy Physiotherapists to join the Academy Medical department on a zero-hour basis. The purpose of this role is to assist in the management of the sports medicine strategy and provide an elite level of medical provision for age groups in the Academy. The role requires the delivery of treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of injuries for all players across the Academy (with a focus on U9-15s squads).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As part of the Academy Medical team and reporting to the U17 Physiotherapist, U19 Physiotherapist, and Academy Doctor, the key responsibilities of this role are:

- To deliver the sports medicine support strategy for all age groups in the Academy (focusing on the U9-15s squads) providing high quality medical provision to the players at Rangers Football Club.
- As part of a multi-disciplinary team, regularly contribute to the departmental strategy to ensure best practice and continuous improvement.
- Assist in ensuring the department attains criteria in line with the Club’s Performance Strategy and football governing bodies.
- Liaise with other Academy Physiotherapists, Sport Scientists and Coaches to ensure effective communication between departments.
- Attend regular academy medical meetings with Academy medical staff.
- Ensure that the management of injuries meets elite standards and the club’s commitment to players through best practice in recognition/diagnosis, documentation, evaluation and treatment of injures.
- Ensure appropriate injury mitigation and player care strategies are adopted, including but not limited to: screening, testing, player and squad interventions, player and coach education, and maturation-based interventions.
- Based on screening, injury history, and performance testing, develop and implement both individual and squad based interventions with a view to maximising player performance and reducing injuries.
- Database management regarding player records, injury history, statistics and progress including regular injury auditing. This should utilise the club’s online platform.
- Working with the Performance team to implement the appropriate rehabilitation and re-conditioning of injured players to allow safe and effective return to play as soon as possible.
- Demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement of the departmental strategy relating to individual player and squad needs including in-service training.
- Provide regular feedback to coaches, players and parents on player development.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the physical development requirements of young footballers including an understanding of growth and maturation in relation to performance and injury.
- Undertake personal CPD to meet the demands of the role.
- Ensure medical equipment is at the required level and standard, up to date and in line with the club’s and governing bodies’ requirements.
- Ensure the safe use of gym equipment for any player under your supervision.
- Provide medical cover at home and away fixtures, where required.
- Attend tournaments abroad as and when required.
- Support the Academy’s culture, core principals, aims and values.
- Possess a flexible approach to working hours, evening and weekends and be willing to adapt.
- To support a performance culture and maximise player potential and ensure that a common and united message is delivered to all players at all times.

The working hours of this role will vary depending on the events requiring cover, please see below for the current schedule:
- Tuesday evening clinic
- Thursday evening clinic
- Friday evening clinic
- Saturday/Sunday games depending on the fixture
- Other clinics, games and tournaments depending on the availability of other zero hour physiotherapy staff and the demands of the business

THE CANDIDATE
Job Knowledge:
- BSc (Hons), MSc (Pre-Reg) or MSc in Physiotherapy
- Post Graduate experience in an MSK / Football / Sports Medicine setting
- Sound knowledge of up to date Physiotherapy techniques
- Valid HCPC registration
- Member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapists
- Current, up to date first aid certificate i.e NSFA, sport promote, scrumcaps, ATMMIF
- Understanding of the physical development requirements of young athletes
- Understanding of growth and maturation in relation to performance and injury
- I.T skills to a high level of competence: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Valid driver’s licence essential

- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- An ability to manage time effectively to achieve the expectations of the role.
- Good team player.
- A flexible approach to working hours is must due to the nature of the job and the scheduling of fixtures.
- You must be eligible to work in the UK.
