Job Description
Job Title First Team physiotherapist/Sports therapist
Place of Work University of Derby, Kedleston Road, DE22 1GB
Status Fixed Term. July 2025-May 2026. Voluntary with benefits
Hours Part time or full time dependent on candidates other commitments
Hours of work 10am till 4pm daily. Matches are Saturday and Wednesday but require flexibility as the schedule may change from to time.

Our innovative full time training and player development model not only allows players the chance to develop build brighter prospects, it also allows those behind the scenes and on the front line supporting those players to gain meaningful work experience and feel part of a team that enables and inspires our workforce to become their best self and gain opportunities for employment and to develop their own career.

Key Responsibilities:

Injury Assessment and Diagnosis:
Conducting thorough assessments to diagnose injuries, determining the severity and appropriate treatment plan. 

Rehabilitation Programs:
Developing and working with members of our SLT on individualised rehabilitation programs for injured players, aiming for a safe and effective return to play. 

Injury Prevention:
Implementing injury prevention strategies, such as warm-up routines and specific exercises, to minimise the risk of injuries. 

First Aid and Emergency Care:
Providing immediate care for injuries sustained during training or matches, including pitch-side trauma care. 

Record Keeping:
Maintaining accurate and detailed records of all assessments, treatments, and rehabilitation progress. 

Communication and Collaboration:
Working closely with coaches, other medical staff, and potentially players' families to ensure a collaborative and holistic approach to player care. 

Education and Guidance:
Educating players and coaches on injury prevention, proper training techniques, and the importance of recovery. 

Staying Updated:
Continuously developing professional knowledge and skills through CPD and staying abreast of the latest research in sports physiotherapy. 

Key relationships:
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will work across and build relationships with the following departments:
Coaching
Management team of ProChance, Team Derby, Mens football and the wider University
Impact physiotherapy
Performance
Performance Analysis
Psychology

Essential Skills and Qualifications:
Degree in Physiotherapy (BSc or MSc) or BSc in Sports Therapy/Rehabilitation .
Strong musculoskeletal assessment and manual therapy skills .
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills .
Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team .
Experience in a sports or elite sporting environment (may be required for some roles) .
Knowledge of sports science and conditioning principles .
First aid qualification (e.g., FA Level 4 Intermediate Trauma Medical Management in Football. For the right candidates we may fund this) . 

Potential Additional Responsibilities:
Lead and work as part of a team on the rehabilitation of long-term injured players under supervision .
Attend training sessions and matches .
Assist with warm-ups and cool-downs .
Contribute to the development of injury prevention programs .
Support recovery sessions after games .
