Non Executive Director Organisation Premiership Women's Rugby (PWR) Salary Board Fees Applicable: £22k-£25k Location UK Based Contract type Fixed Term Closing date 2 May 2025 Job Description About PWR:On 1 July 2023, Premiership Women’s Rugby (PWR) was launched, replacing the previous Premier 15s, managing the Premiership Women’s Rugby club competition.Premiership Women's Rugby has been established to deliver a ten-year strategy for women’s rugby in England. As part of that strategy, a new, nine-team, Premiership Women's Rugby league has been launched as a partnership with the Rugby Football Union (RFU) and the clubs.The ambition for Premiership Women's Rugby is built on a new vision and mission to carry the organisation through the next decade and create a generation of players and fans inspired by world-class club competition.Role Outline:• Location: UK based with the ability to attend on-site meetings when needed at our office in London and/or remotely with prior agreement on Teams• Time commitment: 2 days per month• Terms of Service: To serve for 2 years, renewable once (for a maximum of 4 years of continuous service at the discretion of the board) Requirements of the Role:Responsibilities include• Ensuring exemplary levels of good corporate governance, risk management and Board effectiveness, including support and guidance for all Board members and the Executive Team.• To promote a culture of openness and debate, ensuring effective contributions and constructive challenge from and to all Board Directors.• To set clear strategic directions for the Company and ensure agendas are forward looking and concentrate on these strategic matters taking full account of stakeholder and shareholder views.• To set clear and measurable targets and impact measurements which relate to the aims of the league and contribute to the achievement of the vision and mission.• To check targets and the stages of evolution as set out in the budgets, strategic plans and longer-term business case.• To oversee the setup and startup of the new company and ensure financial and operational reporting is transparent and correct.• To support the CEO and Executive Team to develop, implement and check the strategy and to help with the prioritisation of value creation, commercial and media partnerships, digital and data strategy and the Brand.• To work with the CEO to organise and facilitate regular and special meetings with shareholders, stakeholders and the wider Rugby ecosystem.• To be a trusted advisor to all stakeholders and to ensure strong relationships and communication are kept between all shareholders, the NGB, other regulators or partners.• To be aware of and debate shareholder issues, ideas or concerns on time with correct and clear information.• To take part in a review of performance and ensure the Board is evaluated at least once a year and that performance evaluation and strong management succession is developed, and plans are in place.• To ensure the committees of the Board, including the working or subgroups, properly perform their functions.• To act as an ambassador for the game of rugby and for women’s sport including with external stakeholders, governments and authorities. Key Attributes:• Support all members of the trust board to enable them to contribute to their full abilities and support their continued growth as individuals and members of the trust board;• Monitor that the relevant skills are presented by all trustees, identify gaps in the skills and capability of the trust board as a whole, providing solutions to build the overall skills and capability through training, mentoring or other solutions;• Ensure that all stakeholders are represented;• An ability to enable and encourage communication and involvement in the trust board by all members;• An ability to enable and encourage a balance of ideas to be aired;• Maintain momentum in the meetings whilst keeping to the agreed agenda in terms of content and timing;• An ability to ensure proper preparation is undertaken (agenda and board papers) to allow all meetings to be as effective as possible.Experience & Knowledge:Prior experience at Board Level and experience of Women’s sport would be necessary.The NED should have experience at a strategic level within a scale commercial company, top tier sports team, league or NGB and will typically hold or have held a senior leadership position such as CEO/MD, Partner, or Executive director.You will have the ability to work in a high-profile environment with an understanding of managing stakeholders and shareholders, long term strategy and delivery, risk and reputation. Ideally, you will come with significant expertise in one of the core operational disciplines of a scale business e.g. Legal, HR and People Strategy.Notes on the NED role:The NED would be appointed as a Director, therefore would have additional roles and responsibilities of acting as a director of a UK company – see Companies Act S. 170 – 177 for the roles and duties of a director.
