Job Description
POSITION TITLE: Financial & Business Analyst
DEPARTMENT: CEO office
REPORTS TO: CEO (plus dotted lines to Finance Director and Head of Governance)
DIRECT REPORTS: Nil
LOCATION: Victoria (3 days), Hybrid (2 days)
TYPE OF CONTRACT: Full Time

Overview

We are seeking a Financial & Business Analyst to strengthen our financial reporting and provide data-driven insights that support both our commercial operations and rugby strategy.

Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Finance Director and Head of Governance, this role will play a key role in financial planning, reporting, and data analysis. The role will combine core finance responsibilities with broader business insight, supporting commercial decision-making, business modelling, programme management and long-term strategy.

Key Accountabilities

Financial Monitoring

Supporting the Head of Governance, this role will play a key role in financial planning, reporting, and data in managing the operational and compliance aspects of the Financial Monitoring Regulations, to include (but not limited to):

• Analysis of historical and forecast financial information (cashflows, P&L, balance sheets) as part of the pre-season and mid-season assessments
• Identify risks, issues or red flags, and test assumptions with clubs to assess forecast model integrity
• Model sensitivities to different scenarios and business decisions
• Build systems to collate, store, review and report on financial data for long term analysis
• Develop benchmarking reporting for clubs and aggregated league financial health (including debt and shareholder support)


Rugby Department

• Develop and maintain data strategies and systems to track player, squad, and tournament performance
• Provide insight into player workload, academy development, and salary cap compliance
• Maintain KPI dashboards on attendance, competitiveness, and other key success measures
• Support the rugby strategy via the collation, analysis and visualisation of insightful data-driven information to support future decision-making
• Support the business in its adherence to Data Protection requirements

Financial Management & Reporting

Provide support and expertise to the Finance Director in the following areas:

• Support month-end and year-end closing processes
• Prepare and analyse monthly management accounts, including variance analysis and commentary
• Maintain financial reporting packs
• Partner with operational teams to understand financial impacts and support performance improvements
• Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and rolling forecasts
• Conduct cost analysis and profitability reviews of products
• Maintain financial models for business planning and scenario
analysis
• Preparation of accounts for Holding Company (three entities)

Executive Support

Provide support and expertise to the CEO in the following areas:

• Provide programme management for key business initiatives, including tracking progress, coordinating reporting and updates, and highlighting risks or issues
• Support strategic projects through data analysis, financial modelling, briefing papers, and presentations
• Partner closely with the CEO to provide analytical, organisational, and coordination support on cross-business priorities
• Develop reports, dashboards, and presentations that communicate complex information simply
• Ensure data integrity and clear communication across finance and non-finance audiences

Business Partnering & Insight

• Build strong relationships with managers across the business, acting as a trusted advisor
• Translate financial and operational data into clear, actionable insights and models
• Support evidence-based decision-making with cost, revenue and performance analysis

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Essential
• Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent analytical experience
• Strong grasp of financial management, budgeting, and forecasting
• Advanced Excel, strong data analysis skills and financial modelling
• Ability to design and interpret dashboards/visualisations (Power BI, Tableau, or similar desirable)
• Proven ability to explain complex information simply to varied audiences
• Excellent presentation skills (including producing high quality decks in PowerPoint or equivalent)
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple competing deadlines
• Knowledge of data protection and ethical handling of sensitive information
• Demonstrated experience in designing and conducting audit processes that align to identified risks
• Experience with systems-based technology including data warehousing, reporting and analytical tools

Desirable
• Experience in a finance business partnering role
• Familiarity with sports or performance data
• Understanding of salary cap frameworks and compliance
• Experience preparing board or regulator-level reports
• Comfort working in a growing, fast-paced environment where responsibilities evolve
• Experience of working in sports administration and/or a related field (i.e. auditing, accounting, financial management and/or financial analysis) numeracy skills

We want someone who combines financial rigour with analytical curiosity — equally comfortable closing the books, modelling scenarios, or advising on player workload trends. You’ll be proactive, collaborative, and motivated by turning data into decisions that help the business succeed.
