Job Description
Turning Passion into Purpose. London South Bank University are excited to be recruiting for the post of Sports Development Officer to join our LSBU Active team, as part of the Sports Development Department, at our Southwark Campus.

This position offers the successful candidate with the opportunity to inspire the development of our students and community through sport and physical activity. Working as part of the Sports Development Department, this position will be responsible for coordinating, developing and growing our student sports offer, which includes responsibility for coordinating the Sports Ambassador Scheme, Coach Education programme, and a range of targeted initiatives and events throughout the Academic Year, as well as supporting our performance sport, club sport, sports societies and recreational sports programmes. The postholder will develop and maintain excellent relationships with internal departments, external organisations, and key stakeholders to develop and grow the sports and physical activity offer at the University.

About You:
We are looking to hear from candidates who have the following skills/experience:
Experience of coordinating and developing sports and physical activity programmes (preferably in HE Sport)
Experience of community development, workforce development and coach education
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and customer-service services which meet the needs of a diverse community. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential
Proven ability to maintain and develop excellent relationships with internal departments, external organisations, and key stakeholders
Experience in demonstrating the impact of work through data collection and KPI reporting, surveys, qualitative and quantitative analysis, reports and more.

The ideal candidate will be degree educated, be highly motivated, and be able to work on their own initiative, proactively engaging students and community members in sports and physical activity programmes at the University. Furthermore, a keen eye for detail to deliver high-quality programmes, and to develop and grow programmes is essential.

Key Responsibilities
1. To assist with the development of a sport and activity offer at the University.
2. To increase participation in sport and physical activity amongst target groups.
3. To assist with the management and development of the Sports Ambassador Scheme.
4. To assist in the management and development of the student sports clubs and societies, and club leadership.
5. To establish working relationships with key local sports agencies, NGBs, and external clubs in conjunction with LSBU Active to further the student sporting experience.
6. To assist in the development and support of a comprehensive sports development plan for the department.
7. To assist with community development through sport and physical activity initiatives.
8. To have a responsibility towards the marketing of the department, its services and activities, utilising and maintaining websites, social media platforms, and other means of marketing and promotion.
9. To assist with reports including qualitative and quantitative analysis, participation figures, participant demographics, financial analysis, key issues, recommendations on present and future developments.
10.To carry out any other duties, commensurate with grade, that may be reasonably requested by the Sports Development Manager.
Person specification / Selection criteria
A. Good understanding of the sporting landscape and the structure and relationship of the organisations that operate within it with a focus on HE sport. (essential)
B. Experience of community development, workforce development and coach education (essential)
C. Proven record of coordinating sport/physical activity programmes (essential)
D. Evidence of developing and achieving specific measurable targets (essential)
E. Excellent inter-personal skills and customer-focused services which meet the needs of a diverse community; dealing with face-to-face enquiries (essential)
F. Sports Coaching, Fitness and/or Child Care Qualification(s) (essential).
