This role is developmental and aimed at people who do not currently have a postgraduate qualification in a sport and exercise science related discipline but have clear career aspirations relating to performance and data analysis in sport.The advertised placement is to be combined with studying at Loughborough University on the MSc Applied Sport Performance Analysis course. The successful candidate must be eligible to undertake the course with Loughborough University. The role will require a passion for football and a desire to work in closely connected team, based predominantly at Leicester City Training Ground in Seagrave. It represents a unique opportunity to gain insight into the day-to-day workings of a professional football Data Science Department. The key duties of this role will be to:Work with internal and external performance monitoring data from training and matchdays.Heavily involved in the collection, management and analysis of strength diagnostics testing.Assist in the delivery of data-driven post-match physical reports to a multi-disciplinary team of practitioners.Deliver data insights and visualisations to football practitioners through R Shiny, Tableau and the club’s bespoke Analytics Cloud.Develop an understanding of end-to-end data pipelines; from the development and implementation of API’s to the visualisation of data to gain insights.Work on mid-long-term projects guided by departmental performance questions with the aim of ensuring that the department is at the forefront of new academic knowledge or trends within the field.Work with colleagues to identify opportunities to support and/or develop the diversity and inclusion within the team and wider Club.Who We’re Looking ForBasic knowledge and awareness of Sport Science, including the principles of fitness, strength, recovery and nutrition.A knowledge of the technical and tactical aspects of football.A keen interest in developing / or already have a proficiency in programme languages suitable for data management, processing, and modelling (Python and/or R)Working knowledge of data visualisation software’s such as Tableau or Power BI.Evidence of working with, deriving & clearly communicating actionable insights from football data, either as a hobby or within previous employment.Ability to communicate findings clearly and concisely to stakeholders with varying technical backgrounds.Creative problem solver with the drive and discipline to learn and develop new skills.Passion for attention to detail when working to meet tight deadlines.Good time management and organisational skills, and ability to adhere to deadlines.Experience working and communicating in a sporting environment, with an understanding for football concepts, tactics, recruitment, and how data analytics is currently being used to impact decision making in professional football.About The ClubLeicester City Football Club has a rich and proud history – we’re more than just a football club; we’re a community.
