Job Description
Physiotherapist / Sports Therapist – Histon FC Scholarship Programme

Location: Histon FC / Scholarship Training & Match Venues
Role Type: Part-Time
Start Date: September 2026

The Opportunity

Histon FC are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Physiotherapist or Sports Therapist to work within our Scholarship Programme.

The role would be ideal for either a newly qualified practitioner looking to gain hands-on experience and establish themselves within sport, or an experienced Physiotherapist / Sports Therapist who is not looking for full-time work and would like to remain involved within a football environment alongside other professional or personal commitments.

You will work closely with the coaching staff and scholarship players, taking responsibility for the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries while helping us create a professional environment for the development of our young players.

Key Responsibilities

Provide pitch-side medical and injury support during scholarship fixtures and training where required.
Assess and manage player injuries appropriately.
Provide treatment and rehabilitation programmes for injured players.
Support players through their return-to-training and return-to-play process.
Maintain appropriate and confidential injury and treatment records.
Communicate player availability and rehabilitation progress clearly with the coaching team.
Provide advice around injury prevention, recovery and player wellbeing.
Respond appropriately to injuries and medical incidents during training and matches.
Work collaboratively with coaches to help maximise player availability.
Help develop good habits amongst young players around injury reporting, rehabilitation and recovery.

Who We're Looking For

We are open to applications from people at different stages of their career.

This could be an excellent opportunity for:

A newly qualified Physiotherapist, Sports Therapist or Sports Rehabilitator looking to gain regular experience within football.
Someone currently building their career within sport who wants an opportunity to develop their practical experience.
An experienced practitioner who isn't looking for a full-time position but would enjoy working within a competitive football programme.
Someone balancing private practice, other employment or professional commitments who is looking for a part-time role within football.

The successful applicant will ideally:

Hold, or be completing, a relevant qualification in Physiotherapy, Sports Therapy, Sports Rehabilitation or a related discipline.
Have an interest in football and player development.
Be confident, approachable and able to build positive relationships with young players.
Be organised, reliable and professional.
Communicate effectively with players, coaches and other staff.
Be comfortable working independently when required.
Hold an appropriate pitch-side first aid / emergency care qualification, or be willing to obtain one.
Hold appropriate professional insurance and registration where required.

Previous experience working in football is desirable but not essential. For less experienced applicants, we are more interested in finding someone with the right attitude, reliability and desire to develop.

What the Role Offers

For someone at the beginning of their career, the role provides the opportunity to gain genuine hands-on experience within a football environment.

For a more experienced practitioner, it provides the opportunity to remain involved in sport within a part-time role that can sit alongside other work or commitments.

You will have the opportunity to:

Work regularly with developing footballers.
Gain or maintain hands-on injury assessment and rehabilitation experience.
Develop experience of pitch-side care in a competitive environment.
Work closely with an experienced football coaching team.
Manage rehabilitation and return-to-play processes.
Develop your professional network within football.
Play an important role within the day-to-day running of the Scholarship Programme.

About the Programme

The Histon FC Scholarship Programme provides young players with the opportunity to combine their education with a structured football development programme.

Our aim is to create an environment that gives players a realistic experience of working within football while supporting their development both on and off the pitch.

The successful applicant will play an important part in ensuring our players receive the appropriate care, rehabilitation and support throughout the programme.
How to apply
Please send a short introduction outlining your qualifications, current experience and why the role interests you, alongside an up-to-date CV to histonscholars@gmail.com We welcome applications from newly qualified practitioners, those looking to build their experience within football, and experienced professionals looking for a flexible part-time opportunity within sport. PLEASE NOTE: Despite stated closing/interview date, we will be filling the position as soon as a suitable applicant has been found. We will be interviewing as and when applications are received.
