About
Founded in 1832, the Grange Cricket Club is one of Scotland’s leading cricket clubs. The cricket club is part of The Grange Club a leading multi-sport institution and facilities. With a proud 200-year cricketing tradition, we field 4 Men’s teams, a Women’s team and junior cricket from U8 softball up to U16, with nearly 200 junior playing members. We regularly develop players to regional representative, professional status and international honours. Our picturesque ground is located in the Stockbridge area of central Edinburgh, and we regularly are hosts for Scotland's international matches.

Job Title: Director of Cricket
Reporting to: President, Grange Cricket Club
Job Type: Permanent Full-Time
Location: The Grange Club, Edinburgh, with some travel.
Package: Base salary and performance pay linked to revenue generation

Role Purpose
The Director of Cricket is the senior leader responsible for all cricket playing-related activities at Grange Cricket Club. The role holder will be directly accountable for delivery of the cricket strategy, participation growth, playing performance and revenue generation.

This will include complete management of the junior cricket, women’s and men’s programme. This role is hands-on and central to the life of the club and encompasses the leadership, management, organization, administration and communication of all cricket related activities. This role is central to the club’s long-term cricketing ambitions, with the Director of Cricket’s priority being the junior programme, playing the key role in developing young players and creating a strong, values-led foundation for the club’s future.

Key Responsibilities
Cricket Strategy & Club Development
- Develop and implement a rolling 3-year cricket playing strategy and revenue generation for the club, aligning with the club's overall vision.
- Draft and agree an annual cricket operating plan and budget with cricket committee.
- Identify and implement best practices in cricket development, participation, coaching, and player pathways, including year-round activity plans.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of cricket programme and initiatives, providing quarterly reviews and making programme adjustments as needed.
- Stay abreast of developments in cricket at local, regional, and national levels, incorporating relevant insights into club activities and operations.

Junior Cricket Programmes
- Develop and implement initiatives to drive player participation and retention.
- Design and lead the structured coaching pathway from Under 8 softball to Under 16 for both boys and girls, including a transition to adult cricket pathway.
- Deliver and lead the full junior cricket calendar, including:
 Winter nets (January–March)
 Easter holiday camps
 Spring/Summer junior coaching programme
 Summer holiday camps
 Autumn skills development (September to December)
- Lead each age-group training sessions scheduled on weekday evenings and Sunday morning from April to August.
- Be principal contact with League administrators and orchestrate age-group leaders to organise junior match schedules, team selection, and match days.
- Lead management, team selection and player preparation of performance-based teams competing in the Scottish Cups and national ECB cups.
- Be responsible for design and delivery of annual tours and festival participation.
- Support players selected for regional representative, county academy and Scotland age-group teams.
- Maintain a pathway toward senior club cricket and school–club collaboration.

Coach & Volunteer Coordination and Development
- Line-manage the volunteer coaching team: creating rotas, setting expectations, and running in-season upskilling sessions.
- Establish clear age group coaching plans and consistency across sessions.
- Provide coaching feedback and support for volunteer coaches.
- Develop a programme for older children to develop as a team of young assistant coaches, fostering leadership and role modelling.

Men’s & Women’s Adult Cricket
- Develop and implement strategies to attract new players and retain all players.
- Design and oversee the structured coaching and player development plan.
- Support the senior teams to be competitive and successful in League and Cups.
- Working with the Fixture Secretary to plan and schedule of all club fixtures (league, cup and friendly).
- Set the selection policy and work with the appointed team captains and coaches to establish strong process, guidance and communication to all players.
- Support players aiming for representative, professional and national cricket.
- Establish links to sports medicine, physiotherapy and wellness specialists to provide preferential rate access for players.

Administration, Communication & Member/Parent Liaison
- Manage the assigned annual cricket budget on a monthly basis in conjunction with the President, Junior Convenor and Treasurer.
- Maintain accurate records of player registrations, coaching qualifications and participation data, working with relevant committee members.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant Cricket Scotland regulations and guidelines and where appropriate ECB competition regulations and guidelines.
- Work closely with the Senior Club Membership Team regarding senior team selection, identification of any juniors selected and any other eligibility issues.
- Manage the junior player registration process in conjunction with junior secretary.
- Act as the main point of contact for all parents on junior cricket player development and competition team matters, and escalation point from age group leads on other matters.
- Work closely with the Junior Convenor and age group leaders to deliver clear communication with parents regarding timetables, selections, and expectations.

Grounds & Equipment – Training & Match Days
- Training and non-match activities ensure the grounds are prepared, equipment is set out and returned.
- Match day operations ensure smooth and effective match day for all teams, visitors, umpires and officials, including pitch preparation liaison, equipment availability and hospitality in partnership with the ground staff and Club Manager and volunteers.
- Uphold safeguarding and first-aid standards, and ensure all club policies are followed on all days of training and matches.
- Liaise with grounds staff to ensure the pitches and grounds are prepared and available to a high standard.
- Regularly monitor all cricket equipment and resources for signs of wear and tear, and accurately complete an annual inventory. Consulting with the President and Treasurer ahead of organising any replacement purchases.

Success in this Role Will Look Like
- Adult & Junior member numbers and participation will achieve target levels
- Women and Girls cricket participation growth will lead to full squads at appropriate age/experience for Women’s Premier League, Girls Under 16 and Girls Under 12.
- Revenue generation from activities outside membership and the cricket season achieves target.
- Sustained success in League and Cup competitions throughout the Club.
- A strong, structured and qualified coaching group and pathway, across adult and junior age groups.

Candidate Profile
Essential
- ECB Level 3 coaching qualification or equivalent – minimum.
- Minimum of 3 years demonstrable experience leading development and delivery of a junior cricket programme in a club, school or academy.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in the direct coaching of children.
- Experience in operating and marketing sports activity camps or events.
- Experience of managing within a volunteer-based environment.

Desirable
- Experience managing an annual budget process
- Strong cricket network to attract players and relations with clubs and counties.
- Understanding of the Scottish club cricket and school cricket environment.
- Up-to-date safeguarding and first aid qualifications.
