Job Description
Overview:
Gloucestershire County Cricket Club (GCCC) is seeking a visionary and strategic Director of Cricket to lead the development and delivery of our high-performance cricket programme. This senior leadership role will be instrumental in shaping the future of cricket at the Club across the men’s, women’s, and pathway systems, ensuring success on and off the field.
The Director of Cricket will lead the Club’s cricketing strategy, oversee all professional and pathway cricket operations, and foster a high-performance culture aligned with GCCC’s values and ambitions.

Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
• Develop and implement a clear cricketing strategy for the Club in line with the broader vision and strategic objectives.
• Lead a cohesive performance structure across men’s, women’s, and pathway programmes.
• Ensure alignment of playing philosophies, coaching methodologies, and performance objectives across all cricketing departments.
• Attend and contribute to the Club’s Senior Leadership Team, including attendance at their weekly meetings.
Performance Management
• Set and monitor performance targets for all cricket teams and staff under your leadership.
• Line manage and support the Men’s Head Coach, Women’s Head Coach, Head of Cricket Operations, Head of Talent Pathway and Head of Science & Medical, providing leadership, mentorship, and performance reviews.
• Collaborate with coaching and performance staff to build successful, competitive teams at all levels.
Talent Identification & Development
• Oversee recruitment and retention of players and coaches across professional and pathway programmes.
• Work closely with the Head of Talent Pathway to ensure a seamless development pipeline for young talent into the senior squads.
• Promote and support the growth and development of women’s and girls’ cricket.
Medical, Science & Wellbeing
• Collaborate with the Head of Science & Medical to ensure best-practice injury prevention, rehabilitation, and player welfare support systems.
• Promote a culture of wellbeing, inclusivity, and respect across all cricket operations.
Budget & Operational Oversight
• Work with the CEO, Head of Cricket Operations and finance team to manage cricket budgets, including player contracts, staffing, and operational costs.
• Ensure all cricket operations are delivered within budget and in accordance with Club policies and regulatory requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement
• Act as the Club’s cricketing ambassador with key stakeholders, including regular Members’ Forums and with the ECB, PCA, other counties and community partners.
• Support commercial and community engagement initiatives, working closely with the Club’s commercial and marketing teams.
• Facility management: Liaising with the Head Grounds person on pitch and practice facilities at the County Ground and other grounds.

Governance & Compliance
• Ensure all cricket operations comply with ECB and PCA regulations, safeguarding standards, anti-corruption protocols, and Club policies.
• Contribute to wider Club governance and strategy as a member of the senior leadership team.

Person Specification:
Essential:
• Significant leadership experience in professional sport (as a coach, performance manager, or administrator).
• Proven track record in high-performance environments, ideally across both men’s and women’s programmes.
• Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams (coaches, medical, science, performance support).
• Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
• Strategic thinker with the ability to align operational activity with long-term goals.
• Strong understanding of modern coaching and performance systems.
• A commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion within cricket.
Desirable:
• Level 4 Coaching qualification (or equivalent elite performance qualification).
• Previous experience in a Director of Cricket or similar senior performance role.
• Knowledge of county cricket structures and the ECB’s performance framework.
