As Events Manager, you will be joining our in-demand events team, as part of a dedicated team responsible for delivering the city's annual and one-off events.More about our Events teamGlasgow Life is the strategic lead for events in the city and recently launched Glasgow's Events Strategy 2035 (visit - https://www.visitglasgow.org.uk/events/events-strategy-2035). The team invests to attract, create and grow major cultural and sporting events. We deliver high-profile annual events, including the Merchant City Festival, Glasgow Mela, the World Pipe Band Championships, Aye Write Glasgow Book Festival and Glasgow's winter events. We also deliver one-off major events and programmes, most recently delivering the World Athletics Indoors Championships 2024, the inaugural 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships and European Capital of Sport 2023, with planning underway to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games and UEFA EURO 2028. Our team are the initial point of contact for events coming to the city. This includes working with local, national and international partners to maximise the economic, marketing and social benefits of events to the city. Glasgow is the first city to be named European Capital of Sport twice sport and was also the first place in the UK to be named a UNESCO City of Music.The event manager will work with Senior Events Manager with primary focus on the planning and delivery of the Aye Write Book Festival as well as other core annual events.• Responsible for the coordination of planning and the operational delivery of allocated event(s). This will be either overseeing a portfolio of major events or one major international one-off event• Work with local, regional, national and international bodies and agencies in the planning and delivery of the allocated event(s)• Support the Senior Event Manager and Head of Events in the strategic planning of the allocated event(s)• Be responsible for event budgets and ensure appropriate budget management systems are in place• Line manage and oversee the work of the project team, volunteers and student placements as appropriate• Establish an appropriate project management approach for the allocated event(s) and manage its delivery across the project team• Oversee the process of scoping, procuring, contracting and managing suppliers, including freelance contractors • Ensure effective relationships with colleagues within Support Services, e.g. Legal, Marketing & Communications, Media, Procurement, Finance, Insurance etc.• In conjunction with colleagues and strategic city and national partner agencies, play a key role in the delivery of the city’s Cultural and Sports Events strategies including the bidding for peripatetic events• Support Glasgow’s reputation as an events destination by implementing continuous improvement practicesYou can read the full person specification for this role under the ‘Job Attachments’ section of MyJobScotland.
