Job Description
The Opportunity
Glasgow Native Ventures is entering a new phase of strategic growth and organisational
development. We are seeking an experienced, forward-thinking Group Director of
Hockey Operations to lead and modernise all aspects of hockey operations for the
Glasgow Clan.
This is a senior leadership role with full responsibility for roster construction, recruitment
strategy, operational delivery, compliance, and hockey performance infrastructure. The
successful candidate will also contribute to the club’s broader commercial and growth
objectives as part of the executive leadership structure.
This position offers the opportunity to shape the competitive direction of one of the UK’s
leading professional ice hockey organisations during an ambitious growth phase.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Roster Construction & Recruitment
• Lead player identification, recruitment, negotiation, and signing strategy.
• Build competitive EIHL rosters aligned with budget parameters and long-term
planning.
• Develop and manage an international scouting network across the UK, Europe,
and North America.
• Integrate analytics, video evaluation, live scouting, and due diligence into
recruitment decisions.
• Partner closely with the Head Coach to align roster build with playing philosophy
and performance objectives.
Hockey Operations Leadership
• Oversee all day-to-day hockey operations.
• Line-manage hockey operations personnel including Equipment Manager and
scouting staff.
• Direct team logistics including travel, relocation, visas, IIHF transfers, and game
day operational standards.
• Implement high-performance structures and operational best practice.
Budget & Commercial Alignment
• Own and manage the hockey operations budget.
• Drive financial discipline and value optimisation in recruitment and operational
expenditure.
• Contribute to commercial strategy by:
o Supporting player marketing and fan engagement initiatives.
o Aligning roster strategy with attendance growth and brand positioning.
o Supporting ownership in strategic planning and long-term sustainability.
• Provide clear financial and performance reporting to ownership.
Governance & Compliance
• Ensure full compliance with EIHL regulations and roster rules.
• Oversee visa processes, international transfers, and eligibility in collaboration
with administration.
• Promote ethical recruitment standards, safeguarding, and player welfare.
Essential Criteria
• Senior-level experience in elite professional ice hockey environments (EIHL or
comparable professional league, or NCAA/USports pathway).
• Proven track record in professional roster construction and player recruitment.
• Strong working knowledge of import regulations and British player eligibility.
• Experience managing budgets and multidisciplinary operational teams.
• Strategic mindset with commercial awareness.
• Excellent leadership, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
Desirable
• Previous EIHL experience.
• Established North American and European recruitment network.
• Background in analytics-driven recruitment.
• Experience contributing to organisational growth or restructuring.
