Job Description
Position Overview

The Independent Members of the FAW's Grassroots and Community Football Advisory Committee will play a crucial role in advising and supporting the development and implementation of grassroots football. This position requires a commitment to promoting the growth and sustainability of grassroots football in line with the FAW Enhancing Lives Through Football strategy.


Committee Terms of Reference

To offer the views of the Members and to contribute to the strategic development of the community and grassroots game;
To have oversight of the implementation of strategy, strategic plans and work programmes;
To receive performance reports and monitoring against strategic objectives; and
To have oversight of the management and development of the community and grassroots structures and administration.


Key Responsibilities

- Advice and guidance - Provide expert advice and recommendations on areas of expertise within grassroots and community football.
- Strategic direction - Provide insight to FAW staff on the strategic direction for grassroots and community football.
- Constructive challenge - Provide the right degree of constructive challenge to the FAW staff teams, contributing to the FAW’s strategic direction through the agreement of corporate objectives and key performance indicators and tracking performance again them.
- Collaboration - Work collaboratively with other committee members, FAW staff, and external partners to develop and implement effective grassroots football programs and initiatives.
- Monitoring and Evaluation - Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of grassroots football programs to ensure they meet their objectives and deliver positive outcomes for participants.

Person Specification

Experience

Demonstrates a clear appreciation of the role grassroots and community football plays in promoting education, personal development, inclusion, and wellbeing.
Experience serving on public, private, or not-for-profit boards or senior committees
Proven track record of providing efficient and effective strategic leadership in community sport or education-based initiatives, with a focus on long-term social impact.
Demonstrable experience working with and promoting adherence to good governance principles and practices.
Significant experience fostering a culture that actively promotes equality, diversity and inclusion, including widening participation in sport for women and girls, minority groups, and individuals with additional needs.
Experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating strategic or development plans,
Ability to manage strategic partnerships and develop collaborative relationships with stakeholders in education, health and local government.

We would also value experience in one of the following areas:

Football-related educational programmes, whether in formal school settings, further education, or informal learning environments such as mentoring schemes, leadership programmes, or coaching academies.
OR
An understanding of and/or involvement in alternative and recreational formats of football (e.g., walking football, veterans, small-sided, disability football) that can support health, education, and lifelong learning objectives.
OR
Commercial expertise in grassroots partnerships, including experience in identifying, securing, or managing community sponsorships, CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) collaborations, or local authority and small business engagement to support grassroots initiatives.


Knowledge and Skills
​
Strong knowledge of grassroots sport development and the key drivers for sustainable and inclusive participation.
An appreciation for the challenges and opportunities in expanding access to football for women and girls.
Knowledge of the wider sporting, educational, and political landscape in Wales.
Understanding of the importance of football in education, and the role of sport in supporting youth and community development outcomes.
Familiarity with policies and practices that support safeguarding, equality, and participant welfare.
Skilled in strategic thinking with a keen awareness of the operational realities faced by grassroots clubs and volunteers.
Effective communicator, capable of engaging confidently with diverse audiences and promoting the committee’s objectives clearly and persuasively.
Welsh language skills are desirable, reflecting the FAW’s commitment to bilingualism and cultural inclusion
