Job Description: As the National Governing Body for cricket in England and Wales, the ECB is responsible for leading the development of the game from playground to the test arena. Our ambition is to make cricket the most inclusive sport in the country, and to inspire a generation to say, “cricket is a game for me”.

The ECB holds the ultimate accountability for achieving this ambition and has a number of sib committees to enable it to fulfil its business, one of which is “The Recreational Game Committee” (RGC). The purpose of the RGC is to drive the success and growth of recreational cricket in all its forms for every community in England and Wales and to inform and make recommendations to the Board accordingly.

Following the Committee’s first three-year term, two vacancies have arisen, with a view to successful candidates joining their first meeting in late September 2026.

We are seeking applications from individuals at Recreational Cricket Board Chair or Non Executive Director level who have a strong track record in delivering growth, sustainability and diversity of recreational cricket and/or Independent members.

At least one appointment will be made from the RCB network.

Should you be successful, you will, as an RGC Committee Member:

have the opportunity to play a key role in the leadership, progression, and oversight of recreational cricket at a national level,

provide direction and guidance to the ECB’s strategic plans and long-term vision

steward, enable and advocate for the recreational game

contribute strategic thinking on ‘whole game’ considerations with an opportunity to input to and collaborate with others from across the professional game and performance cricket space in relation to matters that cut across the whole game.

work closely with senior ECB leaders, Executive and Non-Executive.

We have a Committee with a range of roles, skillsets, and experience, to ensure we have the diversity of thought, lived experience and perspective to carry out our responsibilities. For these two vacancies and in considering the complimentary skillsets and experiences required, we are particularly interested to hear from individuals who can evidence ‘impactful’ experience in one or more of the following areas:

Candidates may additionally bring a variety of other professional skills and competencies from their wider careers.

As strongly inclusive leaders, candidates will be proactive in considering the views and needs of others, show sound judgement, integrity, independence of thought, and challenge the status quo. The requirement is to serve the interests of recreational cricket generally, not personal/local need. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills to effectively represent and steward the recreational game across a complex map of cricket stakeholders. Collaborative and collegiate working will be integral.

The ECB recognises the benefits of greater diversity in its governance and is committed to ensuring an inclusive environment. Role details

Anticipated time commitment: 8-10 part or full days per year including 4-5 Committee Meetings and the time required to carry out engagement with the county network and other duties.

Location: The ECB head offices are located at Lord’s Cricket Ground, London, and committee meetings are held here from time to time. However, given we are an inclusive, accessible Committee we also have remote/hybrid meetings and/or meetings held at different locations around the country.

Location and ability to travel will not be a barrier to applicants.

Term of office: Up to three years, renewable after the first term, by agreement of the ECB Board for one further three-year term.

All positions are voluntary. Reasonable expenses will be paid in line with the ECB Expenses Policy.

Application and Process

The ECB is operating an anonymised shortlisting process for this position to ensure the most talented, suitable candidates who strongly align with our criteria are brought forward. Candidate suitability will be judged based on threshold criteria questions linked to the key skills for the role.

In addition to a full Curriculum Vitae, the process asks candidates to submit responses to questions that will assess them against success in post. The ECB and Nominations Panel will only see the application answers. Therefore, these answers may not contain any identifying criteria, including name, current or past employers, etc.

The deadline for applications is 12:00pm (BST) on 28 August 2026. Following this, an ECB appointment panel will review applications. Candidates will be invited to interview with the panel on 7 or 8 September 2026.
