Community Mentor – Inspires

This Community Mentor – Inspires role is an opportunity to make a lasting difference to young people across Greater Manchester. Working across schools, colleges and sixth forms, you will deliver the City Inspires curriculum in the classroom and on the pitch, helping participants build confidence, resilience, positive behaviour and a clearer sense of future pathways.

Who We Are

Established in 1986, City in the Community is Manchester City’s official charity. We support people across Manchester by empowering healthier lives through football. Our programmes place physical and mental wellbeing at their core, whilst also creating healthy futures and healthy communities.

Our City Inspires programme uses football and education together to engage young people who may not be fully accessing the mainstream curriculum. By working with schools and education partners, we create supportive, high-quality learning experiences that help participants grow in confidence, develop life skills and feel excited about what comes next.

The Role

You will help deliver a programme that supports young people to thrive. Through a mix of classroom-based learning and practical sport sessions, you will create engaging experiences that encourage participants to develop their confidence, improve their behaviour and explore positive futures.

Day to day, you will plan and deliver inclusive sessions alongside the Community Mentoring Officer – Inspires, making sure activities are well suited to the needs of different learners. You will build strong relationships with participants, monitor attendance, punctuality and behaviour, and help create a supportive environment where young people feel valued and motivated.

You will also work closely with teaching staff and education partners to support the smooth running and ongoing development of the programme. This includes contributing to reporting against agreed KPIs, maintaining excellent communication with partner schools and looking for opportunities to strengthen the curriculum and improve the experience for participants.

Safeguarding will be a central part of your work. You will ensure CITC’s safeguarding policy and procedures are embedded to the highest standard, and you will act professionally at all times when representing the charity in schools, on-site and across the wider community. As the role involves travelling to schools and partner sites across Greater Manchester, a full, clean driving licence and access to your own vehicle are essential.

What You'll Bring

⚽ Experience of planning and delivering coaching, education or mentoring sessions that are engaging, inclusive and adapted to different needs.

⚽ A strong understanding of community engagement, youth work or education-based programmes.

⚽ Experience of working with schools, colleges or other education stakeholders, with the confidence to build positive working relationships.

⚽ The ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, and to work well with learners, colleagues and external partners.

⚽ A creative, resilient and adaptable approach, with a genuine commitment to continuous improvement.

⚽ Competence using Microsoft Office and the minimum Level 1 Coaching Certificate in any sport.

⚽ A full, clean driving licence and access to your own vehicle are essential.

Why Choose Us

Guided by our values of being caring, inclusive, transformative and youth-led, we are committed to creating an environment where our team feel supported, valued and able to make a meaningful difference through the work they do every day.

As part of our team, you will receive 26 days’ annual leave plus a day off for your birthday and an annual discretionary bonus. You will also have access to a Health Cash Plan, Employee Assistance Programme with 24/7 GP support, and a company pension and life assurance.

You can enjoy a range of additional benefits, including discounted match tickets, savings in the City Store, a free City+ subscription, stadium tour discounts, and wider retail and lifestyle offer.

How to Apply

If this role sounds like it is for you, we would love to hear from you. To apply, please submit your application via our careers site by 6th September 2026.
