Job Description
Cardiff Met Sport is at the heart of sport, physical activity, health & wellbeing in Wales’ Capital City. Our mission is clear – ‘to profoundly enhance the lives of our communities, making them healthier and stronger as an outcome of engaging with us’.

To continue to achieve this, we need people who bring fresh ideas, creativity and commitment to making a difference, who want to make a positive and lasting impact on people’s lives, in Wales and beyond.

We’re now seeking a Club and Coaching Lead to play a key role in the management and development of our men’s and women’s rugby programmes. With 11 Men’s Teams and 2 Women’s teams across performance and club provision, you’ll focus on evolving coaching infrastructure, supporting student placement and volunteer opportunities, and developing approaches to increase participation. Alongside this you’ll take an active coaching role within the club.

You’ll play a key role in:

Managing and developing an aligned coaching and club infrastructure across both Men’s and Women’s BUCS, community leagues and 7s programmes.
Acting as Head Coach for a BUCS team, leading the competition environment and working within a multi-disciplinary team.
Developing a coaching development pathway to recruit, retain and develop coaches across the rugby system.
Creating student placement and work-based learning opportunities with partners and academic programmes.
Developing alternative and year-round playing opportunities to increase student participation across both campuses.

What you’ll bring

With strong technical knowledge of rugby coaching, you’ll bring experience of developing people within a sports setting and contributing to the delivery and development of rugby programmes. You’ll be confident leading and motivating others, building effective relationships, and applying your knowledge of club development and rugby structures to support a collaborative and progressive environment.

You’ll also bring:

A Level 2 rugby coaching qualification and exceptional technical knowledge of rugby coaching.
Experience of developing and/or delivering rugby coach education initiatives.
Experience of working with, developing and motivating volunteers and coaches.
Experience of managing and developing rugby competitive or participation programmes.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships.

Why join Cardiff Metropolitan University?

We offer excellent benefits such as:

Annual leave of 25 days, rising to 30 days after 1 years’ service, plus 12 bank holiday / concessionary days.
Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme with generous contributions.
Excellent family friendly policies – take a look on our Policy Hub page.
