Job Description
Cambridge Rugby is entering an exciting new phase in the development, building a strong commercial team to support an ambitious club that combines high-performance rugby with a substantial community club encompassing men’s, women’s, boys’ and girls’ sport.

We are particularly interested in people who are ambitious, commercially minded, energetic and comfortable taking ownership. Experience within rugby or professional sport is not essential. We are equally interested in talented people from Cambridge’s wider business, events, hospitality, sales, marketing and communications communities.

Title: Commercial Manager
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer / Board
Responsibility: Commercial Executive – Events & Hospitality; Commercial Executive – Marketing & Communications; Commercial Internship Placements.

Role Purpose:
To lead Cambridge Rugby’s commercial operation and take overall responsibility for delivering sustainable commercial revenue across sponsorship, partnerships, hospitality, events and other commercial opportunities.

The Commercial Manager will set the direction and targets for the commercial function, manage key relationships and lead the commercial team.

Key Responsibilities:
• Own and deliver the Club’s commercial strategy and annual commercial plan.
• Take overall accountability for commercial income and agreed revenue targets.
• Develop new sponsorship and partnership opportunities.
• Manage and grow relationships with major existing sponsors and commercial partners.
• Develop sponsorship packages, proposals and new commercial products.
• Lead commercial negotiations and secure new agreements.
• Identify opportunities across Cambridge’s business community.
• Oversee hospitality, events, venue hire, marketing and communications strategy.
• Set objectives and priorities for the commercial team.
• Ensure sponsors receive the rights, benefits and activation agreed within their partnerships.
• Produce regular commercial pipeline, revenue and performance reports for the COO and Board.
• Work closely with Finance to ensure commercial agreements are correctly contracted and invoiced.
• Work with rugby and participation departments to identify new commercial opportunities.
• Represent Cambridge Rugby professionally with partners, businesses and stakeholders.

What We’re Looking For:
A commercially minded relationship-builder who can generate income, develop partnerships and lead a small team. Experience in sport is useful but not essential. Strong candidates could come from sponsorship, business development, sales, events, hospitality or other commercially focused environments.
