Job Description
Chef (Full-Time & Part-Time Opportunities)

Reports To: Chief Operating Officer
Location: Cambridge Rugby Club

Hours: We are recruiting for both full-time and part-time positions.
• Full-Time: Approximately 40 hours per week including matchdays
• Part-Time: Flexible hours (15-20 hours per week)
• Both roles will include some evening and weekend working during the rugby season.

Salary: Competitive salary or hourly rate, dependent on experience.

Purpose of the Role:
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality food across every aspect of the club’s hospitality operation.

Whether preparing food for our daily café, private functions, player catering or busy National League matchdays, you will take pride in producing consistently excellent food whilst maintaining the highest standards of hygiene, professionalism and customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

Kitchen Operations:
• Prepare and cook fresh, high-quality food for the clubhouse café.
• Deliver food for private functions, corporate hospitality and club events.
• Assist with menu planning and seasonal menu development.
• Maintain consistently high standards of food quality and presentation.
• Prepare food efficiently during busy service periods.
• Ensure excellent portion control and minimise waste.
• Receive deliveries and manage stock rotation.
• Support food ordering and stock control.
• Keep the kitchen clean, organised and operating efficiently at all times.

Rugby Team Catering:
Working closely with the rugby programme, you will:
• Prepare and cook nutritious post-training meals for our teams following evening training sessions.
• Develop simple, performance-focused menus that support player recovery and nutrition.
• Ensure food is prepared and served efficiently following training.
• Maintain appropriate stock levels for player catering.

Matchday Kitchen Operations:
Home matchdays are among the busiest and most important days at Cambridge Rugby Club.

You will:
• Help lead the operation of the kitchen during home fixtures.
• Prepare and serve food for players, officials, volunteers, members, supporters and hospitality guests.
• Ensure excellent speed and quality of service during peak periods.
• Work alongside kitchen staff and volunteers to deliver an outstanding matchday experience.
• Prepare the kitchen before service and complete thorough cleaning and close-down afterwards.

Weekend availability during the rugby season is an essential requirement.

Teamwork & Customer Service
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and volunteers.
• Deliver a welcoming and professional service to members and visitors.
• Support the development of the club’s food offering.
• Maintain a positive and proactive attitude at all times.

Compliance:
• Maintain the highest standards of food hygiene.
• Follow all Health & Safety and HACCP procedures.
• Ensure food allergen regulations are adhered to.
• Maintain kitchen equipment safely and report any faults promptly.

Person Specification:

Essential:
• Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen.
• Passion for producing high-quality food.
• Excellent organisational skills.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Flexible approach to evening and weekend working.
• Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain).

Desirable:
• Experience within hospitality, sports clubs or event catering.
• Experience catering for large groups or functions.
• Menu development experience.
• Experience supervising kitchen staff or volunteers.
