Main purpose of the Job Lead the Sport Science and Medicine Team: provide effective leadership and line management, and work closely with the Head of Performance and People Development Lead to ensure that staff evolve their knowledge and skills to provide High-quality performance services at training camps and competitions. Lead the development of BWL’s Athlete Health and Wellbeing strategy: which supports athlete physical and mental health and provides high quality and evidence-informed performance services for Weightlifting athletes across both the World Class Programme and the BWL Performance Pathway. High-Quality Coaching: coordinate and deliver rehabilitation and accessory sessions for World Class Programme and Pathway athletes and maximise development outcomes through effective coaching. Foster an Optimal Athlete Experience: Cultivate a high-quality, person-centred environment that prioritises long-term athlete development. Facilitate Continuous Improvement Through Feedback: Empower athletes and enhance coaching through the utilisation of feedback, ensuring that the support provided aligns with strategic and individual athlete goals. Key Responsibilities Work effectively with the Head of Performance (Weightlifting) to ensure there are clear operational plans in place for the BWL Sport Science and Medical Team, which align with strategic objectives (of funding partners) and are delivered on time and within budget. Ensure there is integration and wider organisational support in areas such as education, competitions, communications, IT & digital developments, governance and compliance, and Board reporting. Lead the Sport Science and Medicine Team: Collaborate closely with the BWL Head of Performance to ensure that performance services are aligned to athlete development goals and BWL's WITTW Model: Provide effective leadership and line management Work closely with the Head of Performance and People Development Lead to ensure that practitioners provide high-quality and evidence-informed performance services to World Class Programme and BWL Performance Pathway athletes which maximise athlete availability Lead athlete case conferences and work collaboratively with the MDT to find effective solutions for complex performance and health-related issues Work collaboratively with the WCP-MDT to accelerate the rehabilitation of athletes back to full training Co-ordinate the provision of physiotherapy for athletes during training camps and competitions Ensure MDT compliance with clinical and health governance standards and GDPR. Lead the development of BWL’s Athlete Health and Wellbeing strategy: Work effectively with the Head of Performance (Weightlifting) to develop and evolve this strategy: Develop the BWL athlete health strategy to ensure it optimises the physical and mental health of athletes, aligning with their performance goals and strategic objectives Co-ordinate the development and implementation of both medical screening, performance profiling and daily readiness monitoring for World Class Programme and Performance Pathway athletes Develop systems for injury and illness surveillance: utilising data collected to identify risks and design strategies to mitigate them to maximise athlete availability Co-ordinate referral pathways and work closely with Sport Science and Medicine Partners to ensure that athletes receive high-quality care Contribute to the identification and development of innovative research and development partnerships and projects with the potential to provide applied benefit to athlete health and performance. High-Quality Coaching at BWL Performance Centres: Collaborate closely with the BWL Head of Performance to ensure that coaching is aligned to athlete development goals and BWL's WITTW Model. Provide individualised Strength, Conditioning, and Rehabilitation coaching Work closely with coaching staff to monitor athlete progress and adapt technical and physical development strategies with consideration for on-going rehabilitation and athlete performance goals Provide expertise and specific support in relation to rehabilitation, injury and illness Contribute to the Physical development strategy and cross-sport learning and development Work closely with UKSI and TASS to ensure that the performance services delivered to World Class Programme and pathway athletes meet appropriate sport-specific standards of practice and that athletes are aware of how to access and maximise the services available to them. Foster an Optimal Athlete Experience: Lead the sport science & medicine team to cultivate a highquality athlete experience that prioritises the long-term development of WCP and Pathway athletes. Ensure a consistent, person-centred approach across all environments. Facilitate Continuous Improvement Through Feedback: Provide regular, constructive feedback as a member of the WCP-MDT and via established feedback loops to identify areas for programme improvement, coaching development and athlete support. Collaborate closely with the People Development Lead to regularly review and adapt your coaching methodology based on feedback and evolving best practices in athlete development and leadership. Build professional relationships and role model desirable behaviours: Build, develop and maintain professional relationships with key stakeholders including athletes, coaches, support staff and parents. Act as a mentor and role model, demonstrating professionalism, integrity and a commitment in-line with the BWL values and person-centred principles. Person Specification The person specification describes the experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills and abilities that BWL are looking for. Minimum requirements: Must be eligible to work in the UK and a UK resident and possess a valid passport or be able to obtain one prior to 1 September 2025 Individual must not be currently under disqualification, expulsion, or suspension by all or any of: BWL; the IWF; the EWF, IOC and/or any other body competent and recognised by BWL; or disqualification, expulsion, or suspension under the World Anti-Doping Code An Enhanced DBS check and an up-to-date Safeguarding Certificate Essential skills/experience are: Undergraduate Degree in Strength & Conditioning or Physiotherapy, or relevant equivalent UKSCA Accredited (or overseas equivalent) UKAD Introduction to Clean Sport Certification A minimum of eight years of rehabilitation and / or S&C experience in Olympic or professional sport. A minimum of four years’ experience of leading Inter-Disciplinary Teams in Olympic or professional sport. Experience of working with elite athletes in strength & power sports Commitment to working collaboratively as part of a team to achieve BWL’s strategic objectives Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with people from all backgrounds. A team player willing to invest time in the development of others. Outstanding communication skills written, verbal, and presentation. Ability to identify logical solutions to problems and effectively manage priorities in demanding environments.
