Job Description
Purpose

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Finance Manager to play a key role in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and effectiveness of British Triathlon’s financial management and reporting.
This role is responsible for delivering high-quality financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, payroll and audit processes, while supporting colleagues across the organisation with financial insight and guidance. The successful candidate will also oversee the day-to-day operational finance processes and line manage the Finance Assistant.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyse monthly management accounts, providing meaningful commentary and insight.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing forecasting, including cash flow management.
- Prepare and submit financial reporting requirements relating to UK Sport and Sport England funding.
- Work closely with budget holders to monitor expenditure, support forecasting, and investigate variances where required.
- Manage payroll processes for employees and contractors, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all legal and pension obligations.
- Lead the year-end audit process and prepare supporting documentation.
- Ensure the integrity of financial records through timely monthly reconciliations.
- Supervise and support the development of the Finance Assistant.
- Maintain compliance with financial policies, procedures, and controls across the organisation.
- Provide support across wider finance activities and contribute to ad hoc financial projects and queries as required.

Relationships

The Finance Manager will report into the Director of Finance, Governance & Operations and will be an integral member of the Finance, Governance & Operations team.
The successful candidate will build strong working relationships with colleagues across the organisation, supporting budget holders with financial understanding and decision making, while also maintaining effective relationships with external finance partners and stakeholders.

Success Criteria

Finance:
- Accurate and timely financial reporting and forecasting.
- Strong financial understanding and accountability across budget holders.
- Finance operating as a trusted and proactive business partner across the organisation.
- Effective cash flow management and monitoring of reserves (in line with Reserves Policy).
- Minimal bad debt and strong financial controls.

General:
- Positive team engagement and ongoing professional development.
- Collaborative and supportive working relationships across departments.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

- Professional accounting qualification (CIMA/ACCA) or can demonstrate equivalent qualified-by-experience expertise.
- Has strong financial management and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Can communicate financial information clearly and confidently to a range of audiences.
- Enjoys building collaborative working relationships across teams and organisational levels.
- Is organised, proactive, and comfortable balancing operational finance responsibilities with strategic support.
- Has experience of grant funding and/or working within a sports governing body environment (desirable).

This role would suit someone who enjoys combining hands-on financial operations with business partnering and organisational support. While there is opportunity to contribute strategically, the role also requires consistency, accuracy, and ownership of core financial processes.
