Job Description

British Taekwondo is seeking independent and experienced individuals to join our new Safeguarding Case Management Group (CMG).

The CMG will play a vital role in supporting the management of safeguarding concerns and allegations, helping to ensure that decisions are made in a timely, fair, proportionate and welfare-focused manner.

About the Role

CMG members provide independent oversight and advice on safeguarding cases, supporting British Taekwondo in:
• Reviewing safeguarding concerns and allegations.
• Assessing and managing risk.
• Considering appropriate interim measures.
• Supporting decision-making throughout investigations.
• Ensuring safeguarding matters are managed in line with legislation, policy and best practice.
• Promoting a culture where the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk remains paramount.

Meetings are generally held remotely as required, and members may also be asked to provide advice between meetings on specific safeguarding matters.

Eligibility Criteria

Essential Criteria
Applicants should be able to demonstrate:
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk.
• Experience of working within safeguarding, child protection, adult safeguarding, investigations, risk management, welfare, governance, human resources, education, healthcare, social work, policing, legal services or a related professional field.
• The ability to review information objectively and contribute to balanced, evidence-based decision making.
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to provide independent challenge where required.
• The ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
• An understanding of fairness, proportionality, equality, diversity and inclusion in safeguarding practice.
• Willingness to undertake any training required by British Taekwondo.
• The ability to attend online meetings and participate in discussions relating to safeguarding case management.
Desirable Criteria
We are particularly interested in applicants with:
• Previous experience of sitting on safeguarding panels, disciplinary panels or case management groups.
• Experience of managing complex safeguarding concerns or allegations.
• Knowledge of safeguarding within sport or the voluntary sector.
• Understanding of statutory safeguarding frameworks and multi-agency working.
• Experience of governance, risk management or decision-making panels.
• Knowledge of data protection and information-sharing principles.
Independence

To maintain the integrity and impartiality of safeguarding decision making, British Taekwondo particularly welcomes applications from individuals who are independent of the organisation and able to bring external expertise and scrutiny.

Current British Taekwondo members may apply; however, all actual, potential or perceived conflicts of interest must be declared and will be managed in accordance with British Taekwondo procedures.

We are especially keen to hear from applicants with safeguarding expertise from outside Taekwondo, including social work, education, policing, healthcare, youth services, charities, legal practice and sports governance.

Time Commitment

CMG members are appointed on a voluntary basis and will normally be asked to attend meetings as required throughout the year (one meeting per month and ad hoc where necessary). The time commitment will vary depending on the number and complexity of cases.

Appointment Process
Successful applicants will be required to:
• Complete an application process.
• Declare any conflicts of interest.
• Comply with British Taekwondo policies and procedures.
• Complete safeguarding training as appropriate.
• Abide by the Case Management Group Terms of Reference
• Sign a confidentiality agreement and Code of Conduct.

Our Commitment

British Taekwondo is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from individuals of all backgrounds. We are particularly keen to hear from people whose experiences and perspectives can strengthen the diversity and effectiveness of safeguarding decision making.

Help us create a safer sport

By joining the Safeguarding Case Management Group, you will play an important role in ensuring safeguarding concerns are managed with independence, expertise, fairness and integrity, helping British Taekwondo provide a safe and positive environment for everyone involved in the sport.
