Why British Shooting?

British Shooting is one of the UK’s most successful yet understated Olympic and Paralympic sports. With a medal return from the Tokyo and Paris cycles that punches well above its weight, Shooting is a unified sport that continues to show what is possible through focused leadership, empowered coaching, and a culture that prioritises people and performance in equal measure. With clear performance plans in place working towards medal success at Los Angeles 2028, the foundations are strong, the culture is well established, and the programme is performing.

Why you?

This is a role for someone who can add value to a performance environment through their interpersonal skills, communication and self-awareness and their ability to build rapport quickly leading to strong and productive relationships based on trust. Beyond each practitioner's expertise, our practitioners add value to high-performing teams through their ability to partner with coaches and understand the athlete behind the gun. We are looking for someone who can blend the compassion and empathy required to support an athlete navigate life both inside and outside of sport, with organisation and prioritisation skills to manage a busy role, working across multiple disciplines, and contribute to important projects and initiatives.

Essential Criteria
- Professional qualification or degree in a related field OR significant experience as an athlete/coach in Olympic or Paralympic sport
- Experience of supporting athletes through coaching/mentoring across a broad range of performance lifestyle areas and facilitating positive outcome for performance and wellbeing
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team supporting athletes and coaches in training and competition environments
- Understanding of the needs of elite athletes/coaches and operating in a world-class programme or equivalent environment
- Understanding of performance lifestyle areas such as transitions, education, career development, wellbeing, financial health)
- Ability to build successful working relationships based on trust and to collaborate effectively with performance staff within a national governing body of sport

British Shooting is proudly decentralised. In practice, this means significant travel to multiple performance hubs in the UK being part of a team that is often working remotely. The successful candidate will need to thrive in this reality, approaching it with resilience and flexibility. We aspire to have a workforce that is diverse and representative of all sections of society, not only by characteristic but by thought and perspective. We believe a diverse workforce enables growth and creates a sustainably inclusive workspace for all employees. British Shooting welcomes applications regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic background, religion and/or belief.
How to apply
Send a CV (no more than 2 side of A4) and covering letter to Lisa Davies lisa.davies@britishshooting.org.uk and include the reference Performance Lifestyle Practitioner in the subject line of the email. The covering letter should provide a brief overview of your experience and set out a clear answer to the following three questions, with each answer no more than 300 words. 1) Given your career pathway and the work that energises you, what most resonates with you about this role and why? 2) Describe your most impactful performance lifestyle (or equivalent) intervention. What did you do, why was it impactful, and what did you learn about your practice? 3) How would you describe performance lifestyle to an athlete or coach who had little/no understanding of the discipline?
