Job Description
British Olympic Foundation (Team GB Foundation)
The British Olympic Foundation, branded as the Team GB Foundation, is the charitable foundation of the British Olympic Association (BOA).

We deliver the BOA’s social impact mission by using the power of Team GB and the Olympic Movement to inspire young people to lead healthier, more active, and confident lives.

Through programmes such as Get Set, Olympic Day, and partnerships with schools, charities, and sponsors, we promote Olympic values and maximise the impact of sport across the UK.

The Role
We are seeking a Chair of Audit to join the Board of Trustees.

This is a key governance role providing independent assurance that the Foundation complies with the Sport England Code for Sports Governance, charity law, and best practice in financial oversight and risk management.

The Chair of Audit supports the Board by ensuring strong internal controls, transparent reporting, and effective risk management.

Key Responsibilities
As Chair of Audit, you will:

• Lead the Audit Committee in line with its Terms of Reference and governance requirements
• Oversee financial reporting, including statutory accounts and key judgements
• Provide assurance on internal controls and risk management
• Oversee the external audit process, including scope, independence, and findings
• Monitor financial position, including reserves, liquidity, and sustainability
• Ensure effective identification and management of risks
• Provide assurance on regulatory and statutory compliance
• Ensure audit actions are tracked and implemented
• Escalate material risks or governance concerns to the Board

Board Responsibilities
All Trustees are collectively responsible for:

• Setting strategic direction in line with charitable objectives
• Upholding high standards of governance, accountability, and transparency
• Safeguarding the Foundation’s reputation, assets, and sustainability
• Ensuring compliance with governance and legal requirements
• Holding the executive team to account
• Ensuring appropriate resources to deliver strategy

About You

Experience

• Senior Board-level experience (Trustee, NED, or equivalent)
• Experience in audit, finance, risk, or governance
• Experience in a regulated environment

Skills

• Strong financial literacy and understanding of audit frameworks
• Ability to interpret complex financial and risk information
• Ability to provide independent challenge
• Strong communication and stakeholder skills

Knowledge

• Understanding of the Sport England Code for Sports Governance
• Familiarity with charity governance and regulation
• Knowledge of sport or purpose-led organisations (desirable)

Personal Qualities

• High integrity and independent judgement
• Strong commitment to governance and ethics
• Collaborative and constructive approach
• Clear communicator with sound, pragmatic judgement
• Commitment to the Foundation’s mission and values

Time Commitment
This is a voluntary Trustee role requiring attendance at Board and Audit Committee meetings, along with preparation and occasional stakeholder engagement. Trustees are expected to commit sufficient time to meet governance requirements.

Appointments are for an initial four-year term, with the possibility of renewal subject to Board approval.
