It is the BHA’s role to act for and on behalf of the whole sport, ensuring that the highest standards apply on and away from the racecourse. It is responsible for promoting and regulating the sport, which is at the heart of a major leisure and entertainment sector, a leading betting product, and the focus of an important breeding industry.The role of the Regulatory team is to ensure the BHA is seen as a capable and progressive regulator, maintaining high levels of integrity whilst delivering the right conditions to ensure the continued growth of the sport. As such, fairness between participants, clarity and consistency, and the promotion of the safety and welfare of horses and people in the sport are key.Reporting into the Head of Regulation, the Senior Regulatory Lawyer will be responsible for case managing the more complex prosecutions under the Rules of Racing. This includes equine and human Anti-Doping, equine welfare, and corruption cases. As a senior member of the team, the successful applicant will be required to provide advice and support to more junior colleagues in relation to case progression. This role will also involve providing advice at a senior stakeholder level in relation to updates to the Rules of Racing and associated policies/projects. The successful candidate will be an experienced lawyer, with experience of providing advice and managing complex cases in a regulatory setting. Experience of working on behalf of another sport’s governing body would be particularly advantageous. This role will involve working closely with other lawyers, investigators and betting analysts, so excellent communication skills are key.
