Job Description
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Contract Type: 4 days a week with 1-2 days in the office (flexible working patterns will be considered). 

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Head of Finance to join the team following Mercury13’s announced takeover of Bristol City Women’s FC.  This exciting change will create dedicated investment and focus on Bristol City Women's FC to accelerate its growth.  You will work closely with the senior leadership team as you support the financial management of the club during this exciting period of transformation.  This is a great opportunity to play a key role in financial planning, reporting, and supporting strategic decision-making across the club.

Key Responsibilities

●       Manage departmental P&Ls, cash flow and balance sheet across the club, including month-end close, regular forecasting, annual budgeting, reporting and long-term financial planning

●       Drive reforecasting analyzing performance vs budget and adjusting forecasts based on evolving club performance and central investments

●       Prepare and consolidate timely monthly reporting packs, including variance analysis, financial KPI tracking and management insights suitable for presentation to the Board

●       Partner collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to provide financial support across a range of strategic and operational initiatives

●       Provide financial support to the Academy

●       Work collaboratively with Legal, HR and Football Administration teams

●       Manage external accountants and finance systems, policies and processes

●       Enhance financial systems and processes across the club

●       Prepare year-end accounts and liaise with external auditors, ensuring club meets all audit and tax reporting requirements

●       Support Research and Development efforts across short- and long-term football  investment projects

●       Support Head of Recruitment on player trading

●       Develop and manage the club’s procurement strategy in order to ensure the company gets the best value from suppliers while supporting our business objectives

●       Work with budget holders to support staff to effectively forecast and manage budgets

●       Responsible for all financial reporting to WSL  (including financial sustainability regulations) and PGAAC

●       Take on ad hoc duties or projects as directed by the CEO (which may include insurance renewals, pension provision etc).

 

Key Requirements

●       ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification with relevant post-qualification experience

●       Significant experience in finance

●       Working knowledge of financial and tax compliance

●       Experience in a high-growth environment and/or professional sports club

●       Excellent skills in Excel and Power BI

●       Strong attention to detail and a high level of organisational skills

●       Clear commercial acumen and the ability to simplify complex information

●       Excellent written and verbal communication

●       The ability to quickly build strong relationships across teams

●       A proactive, solution-oriented mindset with a strong work ethic

●       Resilience under pressure, with a calm and collaborative approach

●       A flexible, adaptable attitude – ready to thrive in a high-energy, fast-moving setting
