Job Description
DEPARTMENT: MEDICAL
REPORTS TO: HEAD OF MEDICAL
CONTRACT TYPE: SESSIONAL/CONTRACTOR

ROLE PURPOSE
To deliver the Bristol Bears vision to ‘Inspire our community through rugby success’ by supporting the development of home-grown players to represent Bristol Bears in the Premiership and Champions Cup.

The Academy’s primary objective is to identify and develop the next generation of quality players for Bristol Bears. The Academy Development Phase Therapist will oversee and provide medical provision across the Bears Academy, including at satellite development centres, Bears High Performance Centre and any other training/match locations as required. These sessions will be mostly on set evenings, with school holiday and weekend cover required across the calendar year. Medical provision will include safe delivery of assessment, diagnosis, and rehabilitation and management of Bears Academy players prior to, during and following training sessions. The role will also require medical provision at training and matchday pitch-side cover across the Bears Academy where required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Foundation Phase
• Assist the Academy Physiotherapist/Therapists with the medical provision for the Development Phase academy groups
• Provide pitch side cover for Development Phase matches (including festivals), assisting the Academy Physiotherapist/Therapists as required.
• Ensuring RFU medical minimum standards are met during all attended training and matches.
• Develop and maintain links between the Academy, Clubs, College and Schools with regards to Bears Academy players
• Regularly communicate with key stakeholders to update them on player availability and training status (liaising with coaches, AP staff and parents).
• Any other duties as reasonably required under the direction of the Head of Medical Services.
• To contribute positively to the Bears vision and culture.

For every player under your care ensure:
• Effective assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management at all times
• Lead and supervise detailed injury management programmes and RTP schedules in conjunction with AP and coaching staff
• Maintain accurate and detailed medical records in accordance with CSP, HCPC and RFU minimum standards.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS
• Qualified Physiotherapist, Sports Therapist or Sports Rehabilitator with a degree 2:1 or higher.
• Member of CSP, HCPC / BASRAT / SST (appropriate professional indemnity to work with elite athletes).
• Experience working with adolescent athletes.
• Valid PHICIS level 2 (or similar advance trauma first aid) qualification, with the ability to attend PHICIS level 3 upon appointment if required.

DESIRABLE SKILLS
• PHICIS Level 3 Qualification
• Experience working in Elite Rugby
• Experience working within a Professional Academy (Football or Rugby)
