Job Description
We are seeking a highly organised, proactive and creative Content and Communications Officer to join our ambitious team, reporting to the Head of Marketing and Communications. With bowls part of the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, England hosting the 2027 World Championships and the sport continuing to grow in awareness and participation numbers, it is an exciting time for our inclusive sport. This integral role will be at the forefront of growing the bowls’ brand within the sporting landscape – getting close to the action, connecting with our passionate bowls community and inspiring new participants. This person will have a great opportunity to put their stamp on the game.

Based in Royal Leamington Spa, Bowls England is the National Governing Body for lawn bowls, the format of the sport featured at the Commonwealth Games. Role Summary
Job Title: Content and Communications Officer
Reporting To: Head of Marketing and Communications
Location: Hybrid - 3 days a week in Royal Leamington Spa Office, event work and occasional travel
Type: Full Time
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the development of and manage the delivery of an annual communications plan in accordance with the organisation’s brand and communications strategies.
- Responsible for the day-to-day management of the website, email broadcast platform and social media channels ensuring they are accurate, engaging and educational.
- Produce engaging content tailored for each communication platform and target audiences including, but not limited to, regular tailored e-newsletters, social media content and web articles.
- Working across the team, produce key publications such as the Annual Report.
- Lead the development of content for major events, including event programmes, PA scripts and social media coverage.
- Report on (and attend, where relevant) England’s international bowls matches and other major events, including the National Bowls Finals and our nationwide initiatives.
- Management of the international athletes media opportunities and support the athletes with briefings and guidance.
- Manage the organisation’s photo library and liaise with photographers with event briefs.
- Provide monthly management reports on communications performance with insight and recommendations for the future.
- Work alongside the marketing function to ensure our communications work is on-brand and results-focussed.
Skills and Experience:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organisational and time management skills, meeting deadlines whilst retaining a keen attention to detail
- A curious and creative mindset, able to uncover stories and be on the pulse of our sport
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tool (Word, Excel, Outlook) and content development systems (Video editing tools such as Clipchamp, graphic design tools such as Photoshop/Canva and email delivery tools such as DotDigital)
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-focused environment supporting colleagues to communicate their activities to our audiences
- A passion and knowledge of the sport of bowls highly desirable
