Job Description
Birmingham City University are recruiting a strength and conditioning coach to lead our TASS delivery. The individual will provide a high quality service to the TASS athletes as well as manage the appropriate reporting and feedback processes to BCU Sport staff, NGB leads and TASS. They will work as part of a MDT to enable to connected and effective service to be provided to all TASS athletes.

Employment Terms:
The successful individual would be employed as a casual staff member at Birmingham City University between September 2025 through to August 2026. The candidate would be subject to an end of season review with excellent prospects for continuation thereafter for September 2026.

To work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team of support staff within the Centre delivering world class strength and conditioning services to TASS athletes.

Lead the strength and conditioning programme for the TASS Athletes. Delivery of all strength and conditioning sessions, screenings and educational sessions for nominated athletes

Direct communication with the TASS Physiotherapist regarding the content and delivery of the strength and conditioning programme, the implementation of injury prevention strategies and the development of a coordinated support system for athletes

Within the rules of professional confidentiality liaise with athletes, primary care managers, parents, coaches and other support staff as appropriate. Be a proactive part of the multidisciplinary support team

Deliver situational assessment for ALL TASS athletes in the Hub
Provision of appropriate reports and others documents to support established KPIs

Attend National TASS S+C forum as BCU hub representative

Ensure that the delivery of the strength and conditioning service effectively meets its commitments to athletes, coaches, national governing bodies and other external professional bodies

Deliver educational material both orally and in written form to athletes, coaches and other client groups

Provision of athlete and coach education regarding key strength and conditioning principles. Ensure athletes and coaches fully understand and prioritise the requirements of long term physical development

Deliver individual and group strength and conditioning sessions to elite athletes across a range of sports (primarily TASS Athletes) and in a variety of training environments

Work within the rules of the UK Professional Code of Conduct, standards and guidelines, and, where appropriate, University/NGB codes, standards and guidelines

Continually improve and development the comprehensive, indexed database of work conducted with athletes and coaches

Attend, contribute to and provide regular reports at appropriate meetings associated with the programme to key stakeholders

Undertake a planned and agreed programme of CPD, including attendance at internal and external meetings and courses to keep abreast of world’s best practice

You will from time to time be required to undertake other duties of a similar nature as reasonably required by your line manager


Essential Qualifications:
A qualification at degree level (or equivalent) in sport science specialising in the area of physical preparation of perfofmance athletes

Relevant Strength and Conditioning Certificate with evidence of continuing professional development

UKSCA Accreditation


Desirable Qualifications:
A qualification at higher degree level (or equivalent) specialising in the physical preparation of performance athletes


Essential Experience:
Previous experience in the provision of strength and conditioning services to athletes and coaches to improve performance

Experience of developing and implementing innovative ideas and putting them into practice, including working in an applied and integrated manner

Demonstrated ability to analyse a ange of sports in relation to their individual athletes within these
sports

Experience in the provision of strength and conditioning services to high performance sport.

Experience of strategic planning, implementation and monitoring of strength and conditioning to high performance athletes

Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of strength and conditioning services to high performance sport

An understanding of the various sports science and medicine disciplines

Excellent anatomical knowledge and ability to apply this to an elite strength and conditioning setting

Desirable Experience:
Experience of Coaching

Ability to work under pressure

Ability to prioritise own workload

Excellent problem solving and decision making skills


Essential Attributes:
Self Motivated

Able to work in a team as well as individually

Excellent interpersonal skills
