Job Description
ABOUT US
Bath Rugby is a world-renowned sports institution with a rich history and passionate fans. We're committed to excellence and a drive for high performance in all areas of the club. As our Women’s Assistant coach you will be a part of our growing Women’s programme at an exciting time.

CORE PURPOSE
We are seeking a qualified and driven coach to join us as a Women’s Assistant Coach reporting to the Women’s Performance Lead. In this role you will contribute to the coaching and development of Women’s Rugby at Bath, focusing on Bath Rugby Ladies, University of Bath (and Bath Rugby 7s).
Contract:
The role will be 12 hours per week, 8 hours Bath Rugby Ladies, 4 hours Bath University women’s team. The contract will be fixed term to the end of the season (April 2027). With an opportunity to extend into 7s coaching for Bath Rugby Women’s team.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Coaching of BRL 1XV
• Assisting on the planning, delivery, and review of BRL 1XV matches and training sessions,
• Attendance at all training sessions and matchdays. Training is Tuesday and Thursday evenings, matches are usually Sundays.
• Assist with selection of the 1XV, whilst inputting where needed into wider club selections. Offering individual feedback and progression points.
• Input, develop and implement a Game Model that suits the players and club vision.
• Have oversight over a specific/specialist area such as Forwards/Backs/Attack/Defence for the 1XV – communicating this across the club effectively.
• Work collaboratively and closely with Head Coach (Women’s Performance Lead), S&C and medical staff.
• Contribute to recruitment of players as agreed with Head Coach, and committee
University of Bath 1XV
• Assisting on the planning, delivery, and review of University of Bath women’s matches and training sessions, attending Monday and Friday morning is essential, with match days on Wednesday voluntary and desirable.
• Assist with selection of the 1XV, whilst inputting where needed into wider club selections. Offering individual feedback and progression points.
• Input, develop and implement a Game Model that suits the players and club vision in line with Bath Rugby wide plans.
• Have oversight over a specific/specialist area such as Forwards/Backs/Attack/Defence for the 1XV – communicating this across the club effectively.
Coaching of Bath Rugby 7s
This is an optional additional opportunity presented as part of this role. Please include whether you would like to be considered for this in your application.
• Assisting on the planning, delivery, and review of Bath Rugby 7s tournaments and training sessions. With training mandatory and tournaments desirable.
• Work collaboratively and closely with Head Coach (WPL), S&C team and medic to ensure the programme meets high performance standards.
• To contribute to recruitment of players as agreed with Head Coach.
• Promote a positive team culture that supports the development and well-being of players both on and off the field
• Stay up to date with the latest trends and best practices in women's rugby, and use this knowledge to continuously improve the programme


CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Essential
• RFU (or equivalent) coaching qualification (England Rugby Coaching Award) with Advanced Award preferred.
• An area of coaching specialism e.g., forwards/backs/attack/defence whilst comfortable coaching all areas.
• Knowledge and understanding of analysis - ability to watch matches and pick out key themes and feedback points to players.
• Knowledge and understanding of rugby sevens and the tactical nuances compared to fifteens (if interested in this role).
• Previous experience of coaching Women’s Rugby at University, Club, national level.
• Degree in Sport Coaching/Sports and Exercise Science or equivalent experience.
• A passion for developing players and championing women’s sport.
• Excellent communication skills, specifically interpersonal skills in 1-1 situations and team.
• Connections to players both locally and nationally to help drive the recruitment plans.
• Track record of CPD/coach development – staying up to date with trends, research and learning in rugby and women’s sport – identifying what may work in this environment.

Location
Your place of work will vary depending on preference and responsibilities that day. However, can and will include Farleigh House, Lambridge Training Ground, University of Bath, The Recreation Ground, and optional work from home.
