Job Description
This role is a temporary fixed term position for a period of 12 months. The Communications Executive is responsible for delivering high-quality external communications that protect and enhance the brand, reputation, and engagement of Basketball Scotland. The role owns
social media channels and website content, ensuring consistent messaging, strong visual identity, and continuous external presence. Occasional involvement in internal communications will be required on a project basis.

Key Responsibilities:

External Communications
• Lead all external communications activity, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and brand alignment.
• Act as the primary point of contact for external communications requests.
• Maintain strong working relationships with internal, external teams and stakeholders.

Social Media Management
• Manage and maintain organisational presence across:
• Plan, create, schedule, and publish regular content.
• React swiftly to emerging issues, events, or last minute requests.
• Monitor engagement and optimise content accordingly.

Website Management
• Maintain, update, and refresh website content to ensure relevance and accuracy.
• Upload new content in line with campaigns, events, and organisational priorities.

Content Creation
• Write clear, engaging copy using strong written English.
• Design visual assets using Canva and Adobe tools.
• Create, edit, and publish video content.
• Ensure all content adheres to brand guidelines.

Campaigns & Events Support
• Deliver high volumes of content during peak periods (e.g. January–March events season).
• Plan content in advance where possible, including cover during periods of annual leave.
Reporting and Analysis
• Monitor and track performance across external communication channels, including social media platforms and the website.
• Provide regular insight into engagement, reach, and content performance to support continuous improvement.
• Provide clear, accessible performance updates that help teams build a shared understanding and make collaborative well informed decisions.
• Identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement in collaboration with the team to strengthen external communications impact during key campaigns and peak periods.

Expected Outputs:
The successful post holder will consistently deliver the following:
• Active and up-to-date social media channels with regular, engaging content.
• Consistent brand voice and visual identity across all external platforms.
• A current, accurate, and engaging website reflecting organisational priorities.
• High-quality written, visual, and video content produced to agreed standards.
• Seamless external communications coverage, with no visible gaps or pauses to the external world.
• Responsive handling of reactive communications, even when requests are last minute.
• Strong external engagement that supports reputation, awareness, and funding potential.

Decision Making & Autonomy:
• Exercises autonomy within a collaborative environment, working closely with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver outcomes.
• Has freedom to select appropriate content, channels, and formats.
• Engages stakeholders as required to ensure accuracy and alignment.
• Organises their own work and priorities, supporting the team to meet agreed objectives

Essential Skills & Experience:
Skills
• Excellent written communication skills.
• Strong command of written English.
• Graphic design capability (Canva and Adobe).
• Video content creation and editing skills.

Experience:
• Proven experience working in a standalone communications role, taking end to end ownership of the full communications lifecycle, including content planning and creation, visual design, publishing across digital channels, and ongoing monitoring of engagement and performance.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a communications or related role.
• Degree or qualification in related field would be advantageous.

Measures of Effectiveness:
The role holder is considered successful when:
• External communications demonstrate a high level of consistency, achieved through effective collaboration and coordination across teams.
• Brand presence remains strong and reliable at all times.
• Social media engagement, reach, and website traffic show sustained growth, reflecting effective content and channel management.
• Stakeholders’ express confidence and trust in communications delivery.
• Basketball Scotland’s work and impact are visible, clear, and well presented externally.
