This role is integral to ensuring the organisation’s messaging is clear, inclusive, and aligns with its mission of community empowerment, social innovation, and systemic change. The INED will advise on digital marketing strategies, public relations, and brand development, ensuring BADU’s initiatives reach and resonate with diverse communities.Key Responsibilities:Governance & Oversight:- Provide independent and objective scrutiny of the board's decisions and activities.- Offer a fresh, external perspective that enhances strategic decision-making.- Ensure the board operates effectively and in accordance with legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements.- Contribute to setting the strategic direction of BADU Community CIC, ensuring the mission, vision, and values are upheld.Strategic Leadership & Planning:- Participate in long-term strategic planning, identifying new opportunities, potential risks, and innovative approaches to achieve the organisation’s objectives.- Guide discussions on growth strategy, financial sustainability, and impact maximisation. - Oversee the CEO succession planning and talent development strategy.Risk & Compliance Management:- Contribute to the development and implementation of robust risk management policies and practices.- Ensure that the organisation adheres to governance best practices and maintains legal compliance.- Ensure that marketing initiatives do not inadvertently create reputational or operational risks for BADU.Financial Stewardship:- Contribute valuable insights, perspectives, and, where applicable, expertise to discussions on financial governance, ensuring the organisation’s financial practices remain transparent, accountable, and sustainable.- Offer input on budget reviews, fundraising strategies, and financial forecasting.Community & Stakeholder Engagement:- Leverage personal networks and affiliations to enhance BADU’s visibility and engagement within key communities and sectors.- Ensure that marketing and communication efforts reflect inclusivity, equity, and a community-centred approach.- Advise on inclusive campaigns that celebrate the diversity of the communities BADU works with. Marketing & Communications:- Lead on the development and execution of marketing, PR, and fundraising strategies to raise awareness of BADU’s initiatives.- Champion the organisation’s visibility and advocacy, with a focus on its core mission and broader societal impact.- Ensure that all marketing efforts align with BADU’s mission, values, and best practices within the sector.- Advise on digital marketing, social media strategies, and audience engagement to enhance BADU’s online presence.- Support the creation and execution of communication campaigns that reflect BADU’s core values and mission.- Guide brand development and content creation across multiple platforms, including social media, websites, and print.- Assist with media relations and reputation management to ensure BADU’s activities are well represented publicly.Continuous Learning & Development:- Commit to understanding the business of the organisation, remaining up-to-date on key developments in the industry and governance practices.- Participate in an effective induction process and ongoing professional development to remain effective in the role.- Stay informed about the latest trends and best practices in marketing, branding, and digital communication, with a particular focus on non-profit and community-focused sectors.Skills & Experience Required:Required Skills:1. A strong belief in and commitment to the mission and values of BADU Community CIC.2. Experience in a leadership or governance role, ideally within non-profit, sports, or community-focused organisations, though prior board membership is not required.3. Proven experience in marketing, branding, and communications, ideally within the community or not-for-profit sectors.4. Strong understanding of digital marketing, social media strategies, and audience engagement techniques.5. Expertise in developing and executing inclusive communication strategies that resonate with and reflect diverse communities.6. In-depth knowledge of brand development, reputation management, and public relations.7. Ability to advise on creative content development and messaging across multiple platforms, including web, social media, and print, ensuring consistency and engagement with key audiences.
