Job Purpose

The Head of Events & Competitions is a member of Archery GB's Sport Development Team, responsible for the strategic leadership, development and delivery of Archery GB's events, competitions and participation offer across the whole sport.

The role will ensure Archery GB provides safe, inclusive, engaging and high-quality opportunities for people to experience, participate in and progress through archery, across all disciplines, ages, abilities and levels of involvement – from community and social participation through to national and international competition and athletes aspiring to Olympic and Paralympic success.

The postholder will lead the development and implementation of Archery GB's Events & Competitions Strategy, ensuring the overall portfolio meets the needs of members, clubs, volunteers, athletes and the wider archery community. This will include reviewing the existing events calendar and offer, identifying gaps and opportunities, and developing new community, social and participation-focused events alongside the established competition programme.

The role will identify opportunities to create greater value for Archery GB members, increase participation and engagement, strengthen the connection between members, clubs and the wider sport and develop commercially sustainable events and experiences. The postholder will also lead the development of major and international event opportunities, ensuring all events are delivered to agreed standards, within budget and in line with Archery GB's strategic priorities.

The role will provide leadership to the Events & Competitions team and work collaboratively to develop an events portfolio that serves the whole archery community.

Key Objectives

· Develop a coherent competitions, events and participation offer that meets the needs of the whole archery community and supports athlete development and performance.
· Lead the planning and successful delivery of AGB's national events and competitions portfolio, building our reputation as a high-quality and credible event and competition organiser.
· Improve the participant, volunteer, official and stakeholder experience of Archery GB events and competitions.
· Strengthen the capability and engagement of competition volunteers, officials, clubs and event hosts.
· Develop and launch a programme of new community, social and participation-focused events that provides added value for Archery GB members and is accessible across all archery disciplines. To include assessing if it is meeting the needs of the whole archery community, identifying gaps, duplication, barriers to participation and opportunities for improvement.
· Develop and implement a clear and insight-led Archery GB Events & Competitions Strategy.
· Ensure the Events & Competitions portfolio is financially and commercially sustainable and delivers value for money, increases member engagement and creates new income opportunities for AGB.
· Develop commercially sustainable events and participation experiences that increase member engagement while creating new income opportunities for Archery GB.
· Identify, develop and lead appropriate bids for UK-based major international competitions.
· Develop the use of data, technology, insight and innovation to improve competition delivery and engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Portfolio Development
· Lead the development of the annual events, competitions and participation plan, ensuring a balanced portfolio that serves the needs of the whole archery community, including community, social, participation, developmental, competitive and national and international opportunities.
· Regularly review the existing events and competition calendar, scheduling and portfolio to assess demand, participation, member value, accessibility, financial performance and alignment with Archery GB's strategic objectives.
· Identify gaps, duplication and opportunities within the current offer and develop recommendations for a more effective and sustainable events programme.
· Identify, develop and launch new and innovative event formats and experiences that encourage participation, social engagement and increased member value across all archery disciplines.
· Work with members, clubs, volunteers and other stakeholders to understand changing needs and use insight, data and feedback to shape the future events offer.
· Ensure events and competitions support the wider participation, development and performance objectives of Archery GB.
· Develop opportunities for events to generate sustainable commercial income through appropriate pricing, partnerships, sponsorship and other revenue-generating models.

Event and Competition Delivery
· Provide strategic oversight of Archery GB's major national competitions and events, ensuring they are professionally planned and delivered.
· Establish and monitor appropriate standards for competition delivery, customer experience, safeguarding, health and safety, accessibility and risk management.
· Ensure events are delivered effectively, within agreed budgets and in accordance with relevant Archery GB and World Archery rules and regulations.
· Ensure appropriate evaluation and lessons learned are incorporated into future event planning.
· Support the Events and Competitions technology manager and ensure all events and competitions are aligned to the relevant codes and governance.

International & Major Events
· Identify and assess opportunities to host major national / international competitions in the UK.
· Lead appropriate bid processes, business cases, budgets and stakeholder engagement.
· Develop and maintain effective relationships with World Archery, World Archery Europe, UK Sport and other relevant organisations.
· Oversee the successful delivery of secured international and major events.

Clubs, Volunteers & Officials
· Support the volunteer coordinator to develop strong relationships with clubs, event hosts, volunteers and competition officials.
· Support the recruitment and retention of an appropriately skilled competition workforce.
· Ensure volunteers have appropriate guidance and support to deliver high-quality competitions.
· Work with relevant committees / groups to continuously improve competition delivery.
Financial & Commercial
· Lead the annual competitions and events budget, ensuring effective financial management, value for money and appropriate investment across the portfolio.
· Develop and implement commercially sustainable event and participation models that balance member value, accessibility and income generation.
· Identify and develop new revenue-generating event opportunities, including community, social and participation-focused events.
· Build compelling event propositions for members, participants, partners and sponsors, working with colleagues to maximise commercial and partnership opportunities.
· Monitor the financial and commercial performance of individual events and the overall portfolio, using insight to inform future investment and scheduling decisions.
· Ensure event suppliers, contracts and commercial commitments are appropriately managed.

Leadership & Stakeholder Management
· Lead, motivate and develop the Events & Competitions team, creating a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
· Work effectively across AGB to deliver shared objectives, particularly with Sport Development, World Class Performance, Marketing & Communications, Finance, IT and Membership Services.
· Represent Archery GB professionally with national and international stakeholders.
· Provide regular reporting to senior colleagues and relevant governance groups on safes sport concerns, performance, risks, opportunities and priorities.

Person Specification
Essential:
• Significant experience of leading competitions, events or sporting programmes.
• Experience of developing and implementing strategy and managing a portfolio of events.
• Experience of managing budgets, resources, risk and operational delivery.
• Experience of leading and developing staff, volunteers and/or delivery teams.
• Understanding of competition structures, event operations and participant experience.
• Experience of developing and launching new participation, community, social or customer-focused events, programmes or experiences.
• Experience of using data, insight and evaluation to improve delivery.

Desirable:
• Experience in an NGB, Olympic / Paralympic or international sporting environment.
• Experience of bidding for or delivering international sporting events.
• Knowledge of World Archery or another international federation's competition environment.
• Experience of developing commercially sustainable events, programmes, products or services and generating income through participation, partnerships, sponsorship or other commercial models.
