Job Description
We’re looking for a creative and motivated Participation Communications Officer & Social Media Lead to inspire new and existing audiences to take part in angling, and to lead social media delivery across our National Angling Strategic Services (NASS) contracts.

This role is central to promoting participation programmes like Get Fishing and Reel Education and to ensuring that social media content across Participation, Fisheries Support and Enforcement is timely, consistent and engaging.

You’ll report to our National Angling Services Communications Manager and work closely with colleagues across all areas of the Angling Trust. You’ll be part of a friendly and motivated communications team that is committed to protecting, promoting and growing angling in England.

This is a full-time role, fixed term until March 2028 (with possible extension), and suits an individual with strong digital communication skills, creative flair and the ability to tell inspiring stories that get more people fishing.

What you’ll be doing;

Deliver inspiring and accessible communications to support participation programmes such as Get Fishing, Reel Education, and other engagement campaigns.
Develop and manage campaigns that encourage more people from all backgrounds to try angling and go fishing more often.
Produce high-quality, creative content across digital and print channels – including stories, imagery, video and graphics – that showcase the benefits of angling.
Use relationships with delivery partners, clubs and communities to amplify participation messages and success stories.
Lead and coordinate social media output across the NASS contracts to ensure participation campaigns reach wide and diverse audiences
Plan and schedule posts in line with campaign calendars, supporting colleagues with advice, templates and shared content.
Monitor and evaluate communications and social media performance to demonstrate impact and continually improve delivery.

Who you are

Experienced in delivering communications across multiple channels (web, social, email, print).
Skilled in creating engaging digital content.
Knowledgeable about social media platforms, tools and analytics.
Strong writer and storyteller, with excellent organisational skills.
A proactive, creative team player who can also work independently.

What will make you stand out

Knowledge of angling or outdoor recreation.
Experience in participation sport, education or community engagement.
Skills in social media management tools and platforms.

What’s in it for you

Salary of £32,000 plus contributory pension.
Full-time role, 37.5 hours per week, occasional evenings/weekends.
Home-based or office working (Ilkeston or Leominster).
25 days holiday plus public holidays.
Laptop, phone and expenses provided.

Who we are

The Angling Trust is a not-for-profit organisation representing recreational fishing in England – one of the country’s largest participation sports. Our mission is to protect, promote and develop angling while caring deeply for the aquatic environments that make fishing possible.

We collaborate with Fish Legal, a separate membership association that uses the law to protect the rights of its members throughout the UK whilst fighting pollution and other threats to the water environment.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team dedicated to fighting for the future of fish and fishing.

Want to join us?

We believe a diversity of backgrounds, experience and opinions builds the strongest team, so we encourage those from under-represented groups to apply.

For more information about the role, please contact peter.devery@anglingtrust.net.

To apply direct, email our Head of Finance, IT & HR Paul Gant at people@anglingtrust.net with your CV and a short covering letter explaining how your skills and experience make you the right fit.

Closing date: 30th September 2025. Please only apply if you have the right to work in the UK as well as a full driving licence and access to your own vehicle. Angling Trust reserves the right to close this application early.
