Job Description
Lead Change. Champion Inclusion. Inspire Healthier Lives.

Active Together, the Active Partnership for Leicestershire, Leicester, and Rutland, is seeking a strategic, values-driven leader to shape our next chapter. This rare opportunity offers the chance to lead a well-established partnership working with system partners to create a more inclusive and accessible offer across physical activity and sport—supporting healthier, more active communities.

We believe physical activity and sport are powerful tools for change—reducing inactivity, tackling inequality, and fostering inclusion. As Director, you will lead our strategic evolution, embedding physical activity and sport with wider system partners.

About the Role

This is more than a leadership role in physical activity and sport. You will drive a movement to address inequality, reduce inactivity, and support wellbeing. Reporting to the Board Chair, you will represent Active Together with clarity and purpose, responding to local needs and national priorities.

You will lead strategic planning, strengthen partnerships, and position Active Together for future funding and long-term sustainability. Working with a supportive Board, you will aim to build trusted relationships, across sectors, to deliver a lasting impact.

About You

You do not need a background in physical activity and sport. What matters is your passion to address inequality, your ability to connect across sectors, and your commitment to making physical activity and sport matter. You will be able to:

- Lead with empathy and purpose
- Champion inclusion and equity
- Influence systems and policy to reduce inactivity and improve wellbeing

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

- Strategic leadership and delivery in a relevant setting
- Experience navigating political environments and engaging senior stakeholders
- Strong planning and implementation skills focused on outcomes
- Understanding of national policy around physical activity, sport, and school PE
- Success in securing public or private sector funding, including Lottery bids
- A strategic mindset with the ability to lead through complexity

You must show a strong commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, and apply this in practice. We will ask you to evidence alignment with our values during the interview process.

Closing date: Wednesday 29th October 2025 (midnight)

You will need to upload a supporting statement (max 1500 words) as part of your application which explains how you meet the criteria in the 'About You' section above. For more information, see the How to Apply section on our career site.
