Job Description
Let’s Play Hockey – Coaching Manager
Salary: £15.17 per hour
Hours: 8:30am–4:30pm OR 9:30am–5:30pm (venue dependent)
Travel Expenses: 30p per mile after the first 35 miles per day (car share uplift available)

About Let’s Play Hockey
Let’s Play Hockey is designed for children aged 6 to 16 and focuses on developing outfield players through engaging activities that build technical skill and tactical understanding. The programme includes small sided games, skill circuits and progressive challenges to ensure a balanced and exciting hockey experience for every child.

Role: Let’s Play Hockey – Coaching Manager
We are looking for a professional, organised and experienced Coaching Manager to oversee the daily running, safety and quality of the Let’s Play Hockey camp.
You will work closely with venue contacts, Head Office and camp staff to ensure a high quality experience for all participants. Alongside coordinating camp operations, you will lead a group of children and deliver engaging, progressive hockey sessions. You will also support coaches, oversee session delivery and act as the main professional contact for parents.
This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills and a commitment to delivering camps the “Activate Way”.

Key Responsibilities
Pre Camp
• Complete all required training.
• Complete onboarding tasks accurately and on time.
• Fully understand the camp timetable and curriculum.
• Support the Camp Manager with grouping and timetable creation.
During Camp
• Present professionally in full Activate uniform at all times.
• Support camp set up and the registration process.
• Deliver an organised and engaging Extra Time Club activity.
• Assist with grouping on Day 1 by assessing children’s ability levels.
• Support supervision during breaks and lunch times.
• Lead a group of approximately 10–15 children.
• Deliver fun, challenging and progressive hockey sessions following the curriculum.
• Support and develop coaches and assistant coaches through observation and feedback.
• Assist the Camp Manager with safeguarding, pastoral and injury related concerns.
• Take responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of all children on camp.
• Maintain a clean, safe and well managed environment.
• Communicate with parents when required.
• Act as the main point of contact with Head Office.
• Identify and report hazards or incidents promptly.
• Encourage reflection, achievement and goal setting within your group.
• Support end of day organisation and ensure all children leave safely with their belongings.
• Ensure all coaches deliver passing, shooting, conditioning games and fundamentals daily.
• Lead team challenges and implement the points system when required.
• Complete all relevant paperwork including registers, incident forms, daily checklists and pre session checks.
• Lead the Super Star of the Day ceremony.
• Complete a full equipment inventory on Day 1.
Post Camp
• Pack equipment away safely.
• Ensure all session logs are completed and submitted to Head Office.
• Participate in the team debrief.
• Prepare plans, equipment and materials for the next day.

What We’re Looking For
Essential
• Valid Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain).
• Strong understanding of safeguarding.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Health and Safety.
• Passion for working with children.
• England Hockey Level 2 “Coach” qualification or significant hockey coaching experience.
• Excellent technical understanding of hockey.
• Strong communication skills.
• Previous experience in a similar role.
Desirable
• Level 3 Hockey coaching qualification.
• Holiday camp experience, ideally in a senior position.
• Experience mentoring or developing coaches.
• Evidence of ongoing CPD.
• Experience managing a team of staff.
