Enhancing Good Governance

Sport can be a powerful medium to foster democracy, rule of law, fair play, respect and discipline. UK Sport is working with various Ministries and NGOs in Southern Africa to build institutional capacity in the NGO sectors and else where, tackle governance and corruption issues and promote greater transparency. UK Sport is currently consulting partners on a 3-tier international sports leadership development programme, provisionally entitled IDEALS, which aims to invest in future leaders in the UK and overseas. UK Sport is working with partners to:

• Influence the incorporation of democratic principles and good governance within the sport structures of the partner countries.
• Disseminate the 'Olympic values' across nations and communities. These include promotion of peace, culture, fairness and education. Sport encourages role models by setting examples of social values
• Build on the Education and Youth Development theme to enhance the professional development of national and international sport leaders of the next generation.

Our projects include:

• In partnership with NIF and CGC, UK Sport provides funding towards upgrading the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa Zone VI office to enable them to communicate effectively with members and donors.
• The partnership has also been enabling the National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) to build up their capacity and effectiveness.
