Amanda was born in Cardiff and attended a Welsh speaking school in Mid Glamorgan. She graduated from Loughborough University and went on to teach for 12 years, working primarily in the East End of London before moving to the Women’s Sports Foundation as Senior Manager in 2000 and then to UK Sport in 2003.
Amanda took up rugby whilst at Loughborough and won 25 caps for Wales as well as 3 caps for Great Britain, and has played in two rugby World Cups. After retirement from playing international rugby, Amanda coached Wales ‘A’ from 1997-1998 and the senior Wales squad 1998-2000. In September 2004 she was appointed to the England coaching team and was Head of England ‘A’ 2005-07. She has been Saracens Head Coach since 2001.
Amanda joined UK Sport as Equity Consultant with responsibility for the development of the organisation’s Equality Strategy and co-ordinating UK wide collaboration. She was appointed Head of Policy in September 2006 and now leads the work on organisational policy and public affairs for UK Sport. In this role Amanda is responsible for leading the Policy Team, delivering the Public Affairs Strategy, overseeing UK-wide and delivering international equality strategies, and facilitating the development of UK Sport organisational policies.
Amanda co-wrote, developed and implemented the Equality Standard for Sport, conceived, with BOF, the Women and Leadership Development Programme and developed UK Sport’s first Public Affairs Strategy.
She founded and has chaired the Sports Councils’ Equity Group since 2003, and was elected as Chair of the European Women and Sport Association in October 2009.
