Sport-in-brief is UK Sport’s weekly update on what is happening in the high performance sports community in the UK.
Archery: British archer Nicky Hunt took gold in the women's individual compound at the FITA World Cup tournament in Shanghai. Hunt beat Mexico's Linda Ochoa in the final, but needed a one arrow shoot-off, after their match ended 5-5. She qualifies top for the World Cup Grand Final later this month.

Cycling: Sharon Laws won her first major career race in stage one of the Tour de Ardeche. Lizzie Armitstead came third in the the 112.4km stage from Le Pouzin to Beauchastel.

Equestrian: William Fox-Pitt finished second at the Burghley Horse Trials and now leads the race to win this year's Classics Series. The series ends in Pau in November.

Hockey: England's World Cup bronze medal opponents will be Germany after they went down 2-1 to hosts Argentina in the second semi final of the BDO FIH World Cup. Luciana Aymar and Rosario Luchetti gave the hosts a 2-0 lead before Maike Stockel pulled one back late on for the Germans. Earlier in the evening England lost their semi final in dramatic style, missing out on a place in the final on penalties, which the Dutch won 4-3.

Judo: Euan Burton has won his second World bronze medal on day two of the 2010 World Championships, held in Tokyo, Japan from 9th – 13th September. The bronze medal is Britain’s first of the Championships and was won in the busy -81kg competition, which saw 79 competitors fight it out on the World stage.
Modern Pentathlon: Britain's women won silver in the team competition at the modern pentathlon World Championships in China. Meanwhile in the women’s individual event Heather Fell finished eighth, Freyja Prentice was ninth and Samantha Murray finished 22nd in her first senior world championship.

Sailing: Ed Wright has won his first world title after victory in the final medal race at the Finn Gold Cup in San Francisco, USA. Giles Scott, who took gold at the Sail for Gold regatta in August, won bronze in the event. Meanwhile Nick Thompson claimed silver in the Laser World Championships at Hayling Island.

Taekwondo: Bianca Walkden took gold at the first ever SportAccord Martial Arts Games in Beijing, China yesterday. Walkden beat French current World Champion and Olympic bronze medallist, Gwladys Epangue, in the +67kg final. She will be given World top three status when the new rankings are announced.

Wheechair Tennis: Paralympic champion Peter Norfolk beat top seed David Wagner at the US Open USTA event in St Louis. Norfolk will now head to New York on Thursday for the US Open, the final Grand Slam of the year.
