Modern Pentathlon includes five events: pistol shooting, epee fencing, 200m freestyle swimming, show jumping and a 3km cross country run and first appeared on the Olympic programme in Stockholm 1912. The women’s event was first introduced at the Sydney Games in 2000 and Great Britain has won at least one medal at every Olympic Games since. London 2012 will be the first Olympic Games at which the running and shooting elements are combined.
