EWS 08 September 2011

On 15 September leaders from UK and European sport will gather at the Olympic Park for the opening of the 10th European Women and Sport Conference, EWS2011.

Speakers from 16 different nations will be address delegates from over 30 countries on subjects ranging from coaching to the commercial value of women's sport and Paralympic athlete development to gender mainstreaming.

As well as Baroness Sue Campbell, UK Sport Chair, and Sir Phil Craven, IPC President, LOCOG's Debbie Jevans and some of Britain’s leading athletes will share their own experiences of their sport and aspirations for London 2012.

Eleanor Oldroyd, who will Chair a debate on the London 2012 Games at EWS2011, says: "Every four years the Olympics and Paralympics create heroes and heroines. Mary Peters, Olga Korbut, Tanni Grey Thompson, Denise Lewis, Kelly Holmes and Rebecca Adlington have all amazed us, thrilled us, and made us stand up and cheer with their achievements in the last 40 years.

"I can't wait to find out who will be inspiring our young women and girls in 2012 and EWS2011 will give us the opportunity to debate, celebrate and anticipate the best of women in Olympic and Paralympic Games."
