Sir Chris Hoy won his sixth Olympic gold medal, eclipsing Sir Steve Redgrave and becoming the greatest British Olympian of all time. It was his second gold of London 2012 and saw him defend the Keirin title he won in Beijing four years ago.

After the race Sir Chris confirmed that this would be his final appearance at the Olympics, although it is hoped he will remain in the sport in order to compete at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014.
