In Tanzania East Africa, the Beckwith International Leadership Development (BILD) programme has been running for the past three years. BILD has been developing leadership capacity in Tanzania through its national programme to enable the capacity of coaches, teachers, community leaders and young people to lead and support sports leadership activity.

The success of the BILD programme has paved the way for International Inspiration (II) Tanzania which kicked off in August 2011 and is building on the solid foundation laid by the BILD programme by collaborating with existing stakeholders, schools and sports structures to focus on the development of a country wide community sport coaching framework for Tanzania.

The National Sports Council (NSC) in Tanzania is responsible for the management of BILD in country, as well as driving the community coaching aspects of the International Inspiration country wide plan.

Secretary General of the NSC, Mr. Henry Lihaya, said: "The BILD programme in Tanzania has really set the bench mark as to the quality and style of leadership programme we should have in country, and I am very satisfied that International Inspiration is able to build on the work of BILD and contribute to the sustainability of the programme.”

The Technical Working Group responsible for the development of the community coaching pathway met in Dar es Salaam in September, supported by the UK Sport International Community Coach Education System (ICES) team. The final operational plan will be presented in October 2011 by the group to the National Sports Council and British Council.
