Tickets are now on sale for the 8th FIG Trampoline and Tumbling World Cup at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena on 25th November. The event, which will host around 60 of the best trampolinists and tumblers in the world is being jointly organised by British Gymnastics and Birmingham City Council, with the support of UK Sport’s National Lottery funded World Class Events Programme.
The World Cup Final will include six separate disciplines: women’s individual trampoline, men’s individual trampoline, women’s synchronised trampoline, men’s synchronised trampoline, women’s tumbling and men’s tumbling.
Competitors will be invited to the World Cup Final based on their world ranking and gymnasts have to compete at a number of qualifying events, which are staged across the world, in order to pick up ranking points. Only the top eight gymnasts or pairs in each of the disciplines will be invited to compete.
Great Britain currently has several gymnasts ranked in the top ten of their discipline including Damien Walters (men’s tumbling), Samantha Palmer (women’s tumbling), Claire Wright (women’s individual and synchronised and trampoline) and Jaime Moore (women’s synchronised trampoline).
UK Sport’s National Lottery funded World Class Events Programme has awarded the event a grant of up to £202 000. John Scott, UK Sport’s International Director said:
"The significant investment we are making in the Trampoline and Tumbling World Cup Final is testament to the high quality of event that Birmingham continues to deliver. Once again I have no doubt that spectators and competitors alike can look forward to a superbly organised event taking place in facilities that are second to none."
Councillor Ray Hassall, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport and Culture said:
"In 2004 Birmingham staged the World Cup Final in Artistic Gymnastics. This was an extremely successful event and we are looking forward to following this up with the Trampoline and Tumbling World Cup Final. Gymnastics is an Olympic sport so hosting this event further strengthens our reputation as a World Class Sporting City and also allows us to showcase one of Europe’s finest indoor sports facilities."
British Gymnastics Chief Executive Alan Sommerville said:
"We are pleased to be working with Birmingham City Council again, as this partnership has proven to be extremely successful in the past. Trampoline and tumbling are both spectacular to watch and I’m sure spectators will be amazed by the skills and agility of the competitors and I know the British team members are looking forward to competing in a major event on home soil."
Tickets for the event start at £6 for adults and £4 for concessions. Each ticket holder will also have access to a free British Gymnastics radio giving commentary and expert analysis during the event. For tickets or more information call 0870 366 6543 or log onto www.british-gymnastics.org.
