On her last day as
UK Sport CEO, Liz Nicholl bids a fond farewell and heartfelt thanks to her
friends and colleagues across all the organisations that make up the UK high
Over the 20 years I have spent at UK Sport it has been a
huge privilege to work alongside so many committed and talented colleagues,
both within the organisation and right across the Olympic and Paralympic
In a business where we have been striving to be the best
in a highly competitive world, at the same time as raising the bar in terms of
staging major events, improving culture, governance and leadership and
delivering impact both domestically and around the world, there are new
opportunities and challenges at every level, every day.
What has given me great comfort and confidence throughout
those years is the fact that together we have built a system that is committed
to working together, sharing insights, problem solving and turning challenges
into opportunities to be even stronger.
I feel proud of the part I have played and so should you
all. We have been on a very special journey with the athletes we have supported
to be the very best they can be, fuelled by the National Lottery and
extraordinary Government support over successive Games. The nation has celebrated
all those inspirational moments of success with us and benefited from the
winning reputation that we have all built.
I were to leave you with some final words of advice they would be; never lose
sight of the goal, commit to excellence in what you do, and how you do it, and
you will achieve beyond what you think might be possible. In doing so, your
track record of delivering value to the nation will continue and the case to Government
for continued investment in high performance sport will be strong. Continue to cherish
The National Lottery, particularly in this, its 25th birthday, year.
I am looking forward to admiring your future achievements
from the sofa or the terraces! I wish you all continued success and thank you
for your support and engagement with me and my team over the years.
With my very best wishes for Tokyo and beyond,
