2007 Prohibited List published by WADA

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has published the new List of Prohibited Substances and Methods, which comes into effect on 1 January 2007. The new List contains very few changes to the one currently in use.
The Prohibited List is developed through a highly consultative year-long process, beginning with the circulation of a draft List among more than 1,700 stakeholders for comment. Before submitting its comments, UK Sport undertakes a consultative process with the key UK Stakeholders. The comments received are then processed by WADA's List Committee, who then presents its conclusions to the WADA Health, Medical and Research Committee - who in turn submits its final recommendations to the Executive Committee at their annual September meeting. The Executive Committee, WADA's ultimate policy-making body, discusses the recommendations and makes the final decision.
Among the minor modifications for the 2007 List are the clarification that all stimulants are prohibited (including both their (D- & L-) isomers where relevant), except imidazole derivatives for topical use and those stimulants on the 2007 Monitoring Programme. In addition, benzylpiperazine has been added to the list of stimulant examples.
“Although very few changes have been made to the List, it is still important for athletes and support personnel to reacquaint themselves with it before it comes into effect at the start of next year,” said Allison Holloway, Education and Information Manager at UK Sport. “Even minor List changes can impact on the status of an athlete’s current medication so they should always check the new List to avoid inadvertently breaking the anti-doping rules.”
All UK Sport’s support material for athletes and support staff will be updated to reflect the changes, including the Drug Information Database (www.didglobal.com) which has provided answer to drug enquiries to thousands of athletes over the past few years.
